The Marche / Abruzzo / Marche region

History, culture and the landscape of Le Marche have helped to create a unique and extraordinary area that is worth discovering. The peaceful, well ordered atmosphere of its quiet, gently rolling hills provides an opportunity to find cultural works of historical, literary and legendary significance.

Full of small, walled, hilltop towns overlooking picturesque valleys, glowing with poppies in the spring and sunflowers in late summer. Many historical pageants are still staged in the old town centres.

The Monti Sibillini mountains which rise above 2000 feet became a National Park in 1993. A place with an atmosphere and history all of its own. The fauna and flora of the park are unique; it is possible to see golden eagles, roe deer and other rare wild life. You will find many lakes, including Lago di Pilato, the only natural lake in the Marche. Water sports & other activities are practised in various lakes (Lake Fiastra, Lake Borgiano etc), only some to be mentioned.

Plateaux and forests are perfect for walkers and cyclists. Discover ancient villages with their wealth of Romanesque Churches, frescoes and late Gothic art, or just relax with a picnic.

Amandola / Garulla Inferiore area

Before passing through the ancient town of Amandola on your way up to the hamlet of Garulla, you may wish to stop in the main town square and marvel at the ancient aritecture and try the wonders of Italian ice. cream . An evening visit is a must., you will discover many small bars and restaurants.

There is a very good bicycle hire centre, details of which can be found in the house., together with many other enjoyable places to vist.

To the other side of Garulla is the medieval town of Sarnano. The town is one of the most important well-equipped spa resorts of the region, offering modern and sophisticated therapeutic and beauty treatments. The spa baths are open all year round.

Sarnano also has museums and a library well worth a visit, as well as local churches full of sculpture and important works by famous artists. The market , held every Thursday is a must, followed by a visit to a local patisserie to revive you.
