The Campania region
The region is renowned for its marvellous landscape, historical monuments, amazing local cuisine, original home of the pizza and mozzarella cheese, limoncello and much more. One of the most famous coastlines in the world and a must see. Naples is the regional capital. Tourist attractions include the Greek temples at Paestum, the Roman ruins at Pompeii and Herculaneum, the volcanoes of Vesuvius, Campi Flegrei and Ischia, the Amalfi Coast (Costiera Amalfitana) from Sorrento to Salerno and the islands of Capri, Ischia and Procida. Average 35 degrees centigrade in summer, 10 degrees centigrade in winter.
Amalfi Coast area
The Amalfi Coast, Italy (la Costiera Amalfitana) is a beautiful and world renowned stretch of mountainous coastline south of Naples, in Campania. The southern end of the Bay of Naples stretches out in a peninsula that reaches towards the island of Capri. The southern side of the peninsula is dotted with picturesque villages and towns clinging giddily to cliffs; this is what is known as the Amalfi Coast. Well-accustomed to catering for affluent foreign tourists, the area offers a generous selection of restaurants, bars, boutiques, boat trips. The main town of the coast is, of course, Amalfi with its Duomo Sant'Andrea, an imposing Cathedral dating from the 10th century and well worth a visit. Other popular destinations are Ravello and Positano. Ravello is famous for its beautiful gardens perched high in the mountains above the sea, and for its classical music concerts. Positano is on the coast to the west of Amalfi, and is a traditionally 'posh' resort, famous for its colourful boutiques and its exclusive restaurants. On the Coast the views are undeniably breathtaking, and away from the main road and the tourist hot-spots you can still discover the peace that charmed visitors for centuries. The public transport along the coast is cheap and efficient. The bus company SITA operates regular blue buses along the coast, from Salerno to Amalfi and the other coastal towns. In the summer months ferries connect the principal towns of the Amalfi Coast area, and can be a quicker and more relaxing alternative to the buses. The ferry company Travelmar operates services between Salerno, Minori, Amalfi, Positano and Sorrento. Salerno to Amalfi takes approximately 35 minutes.
How to get there
British Airways (www.ba.com), Easyjet (www.easyjet.com), BMI (www.flybmi.com), Lufthansa(www.lufthansa.co.uk) have direct flights from London to Naples. The apartment is 45 minutes driving from Naples Airport. There are also bus and local train services from Naples train station (Napoli) to Salerno (Salerno) or Vietri (Vietri sul mare). In the summer there is a bus from Naples Airport straight to Vietri sul mare, it takes about an hour. "Thank you for the use of your fabulous holiday apartment in Vietri. We had a wonderful holiday and were delighted by the location size and high standard of where we stayed. This was our first trip to the Amalfi coast so great to have such a good experience with accommodation. Thank you also to Olimpia for a warm welcome and friendly attention during our stay. Thanks again Bianca - When we get chance to return to Italy I will look for your apartment first! Ruth Gardner and family
"Our family enjoyed a lovely holiday in Vietri at the apartment which is fantastically located for Vietri sul mer marina. 300 yards downhill you have the water front and some lovely beaches within 10 minutes water taxi. Local shops provide self catering facilities and pizza a plenty. Fabulous views and a great big apartment. Everything as told on the web site. Ensure that you have thought about travel requirements though as parking is limited and getting around on the local bus is greatly enhanced if you can speak the language. " Tony Barber and family from Suffolk
An extremely spacious apartment with a private terrace overlooking the bay. A friendly family welcome that lasted the whole of our stay. An ideal location to explore the area either by car or public transport. A holiday enjoyed by ourselves and our teenage daughter and her friend. Anslow family - West Midland UK
"A warm welcome and beautiful surroundings with a huge variety of spectacular places to visit. We had a great time and look forward to our next visit." Harvey Gould of London.
"A comfortable apartment, ideally situated, overlooking the sea and just 10 minutes walk from the beach. We visited the Amalfi coast, Pompeii, Herculaneum and by taking the boat along the coast from nearby Salerno, you can avoid the traffic and enjoy the local wine and food which makes this part of the country so unique. Whatever your tastes, the choice is yours." S. Norman, Hampshire
