Casa Placida
About the home
Casa Placida is a characteristic independent house built on the sloping cliff in front of the sea. It sleeps four people. From Casa Placida you will enjoy a fascinating view of the sea and of the coast from Positano to Punta Campanella, the western tip of the Sorrentine peninsula, and of the island of Capri at the horizon. Casa Placida is 50 square meters (540 square feet). It features two private terraces and air conditioning (please read description below to check in which rooms the units are installed).
You will be in the center of Praiano, approximately 100 meters (330 feet) from restaurants, the shops and the stop for the SITA bus and for the local bus. You will find the closest beach (Spiaggia della Gavitella) at roughly 600 meters (660 yards) including 400 stairway steps. You will reach Casa Placida from the street level going down a short walkway that cuts through a garden and includes approximately 30 stairway steps.
You will not need a car to stay at Casa Placida. If you do have one, you will be able to park it nearby, free of charge or for a fee, along the public roads (the actual distance might vary depending on the availability of parking spaces).
As soon as you enter the house you will be attracted by the panorama that will be in front of you. Even if you are inside the living room, looking through the glass door you will see only sea and sky. Leaning out, you will discover that you will have a 180-degree view of one of the most beautiful tracts of the Amalfi Coast for the length of your stay. In front of you there will be breathtaking view in its entirety: below you will see a stripe of white house of Praiano, each one surrounded by the green of its own garden, which is roughly interrupted by the blue sea.
The Torre di Grado watchtower and the majolica dome of the Church of Saint Gennaro stand among the houses. On your right, your sight will embrace a wide view of the coast which surrounds the characteristic village of Positano, and will reach Punta Campanella and the island of Capri. The famous Faraglioni of Capri can be seen at the horizon, and, closer, you can admire the small islands of Li Galli.
From Casa Placida you will reach the sea by bus or on foot, with a long stroll to the beach called "Praia", which is at approximately a mile. Or you can travel along a long stairway (approximately 400 steps) that will take you to a charming small beach called Gavitella. The Campania region
If you think you have no idea of where Campania is, think again. This fascinating land, rich in gulfs, islands and legendary places, is home to the charming landscapes of the Amalfi Coast, Sorrento, the Cilento National Park, Capri and Ischia.
The Campania region is situated in the South of Italy and bounded by the Tyrrhenian Sea (that’s the name of that stretch of Mediterranean). The region is divided into five provinces, whose capitals are Salerno, Caserta, Avellino, Benevento and Naples (Napoli). Naples is also the capital city of the region itself. With roughly 6 million of residents, half of which lives around the city of Naples, Campania has more people than Finland, packed in an area which is 200 times smaller.
If you are fond of archeology, architecture, or simply want to see history come back to life, Campania is a must. The archeological heritage is huge: the temples left by the Greeks in Paestum, the buried towns of Pompeii and Herculaneum, the remains of Velia, the masterpieces kept in the museums, the churches… and, of course!, the Royal Palace of Caserta, built to be the most sumptuous palace of Europe, with its 1200 rooms.
If the majesty you prefer is the majesty of nature, Campania will not disappoint you. The sandy beaches and the crystal-clear waters of the Cilento National Park, the amazing scenery of the Amalfi Coast, the islands of the Gulf of Naples are just a sampler of what lies ahead of you. From the underground depths of the caves of Pertosa to the heights of Mount Vesuvius, there is something for everyone. By the way, being Mount Vesuvius an active volcano, we respectfully suggest you visit sooner rather than later.
The Amalfi Coast / Praiano area
Behind Capo Sottile, on the far slopes of Monte Tre Cavalli, and looking eastwards, there is the little town of Praiano.
This popular seaside resort has kept its character of quiet fishermen's village through the centuries. Located halfway between Amalfi (8 km) and Positano (7 km), Praiano is just one step away from the two most lively villages of the coast. The Sita bus line connects Praiano to Amalfi, Positano and Sorrento. The local orange bus circles around the village and takes you down to the beach and as far as Positano as well.
As a traveller going to Praiano you will appreciate its slow pace. At the same time, the quality of its restaurants as well as the friendly atmosphere of the local cafes, such as Bar del Sole, will not disappoint you. Small as it is, the village does have its own grocery stores and ATM.
The parish church, dedicated to Saint Luke, is located in the upper part of the town, in a spot with a lovely view; the church houses a precious silver figure of Saint Luke.
Praiano's beach is the small, enchanting Marina di Praia, which is situated at the end of the wild Praia valley. The surrounding cliffs have been deeply marked by erosion. On a rocky promontory stands the cylindrical mass of Torre a Mare: a medieval structure which recalls the centuries-old struggle of the area's inhabitants against the attacks of pirates.
