Appartamento Luigi
About the home
Appartamento Luigi is part of a romantic historical villa
set into a cliff that drops steeply down to the sea. It features a swimming pool
filled with sea water, and private access to the sea.
This large villa, about 3 km (2 miles) from Amalfi, is divided into three
apartments. Each of them has a splendid balcony, framed by arches and supported
by small ancient marble columns. From the balconies you will enjoy an
incomparable view of the sea, and the stunning profile of the Amalfi Coast.
During your stay in Appartamento Luigi, you will be able to relax in the
charming garden, full of flowers and adorned with precious ancient statues. The
garden consists of a series of terraces that descend towards the sea. On these
terraces, you will be able to rest in the shadow of perfumed pergolas of lemons
and flowers, while drinking in the breathtaking panorama that spreads out before
you. The wide swimming pool, which also boasts a fully-equipped solarium, is dug
into the cliff-side close to the sea. A stairway cut into the cliff leads
directly to the sea, and to a point where small boats can berth.
It is difficult to describe the beauty of this place: as soon as you step
into the garden of the villa, you will find yourself rejuvenated by the clean,
ocean-scented air, and overwhelmed by the glistening deep blue sea in front of
you and the flower-filled garden all around. As you walk the paths and the
stairs of the garden, admiring the ancient statuary and the flowers that spill
from well-tended beds, hillside crevices and terracotta urns, you will discover
ever more fascinating views of the coast. The ancient style of the buildings,
which fit beautifully among the cliff, the sea and the green surroundings,
contributes to the unique charm of the place. You will find it difficult to
leave, just like so many of the famous people who have stayed here in the past,
including Jacqueline Kennedy -- to name just one.
Indeed, beyond its matchless beauty, the villa is part of an
historical area of huge significance for the Coast of Amalfi. In this large
park, situated between the state road and the sea, a few buildings are cleverly
set into the green slopes of the rocky coast, and partly built into the cliff
itself. The most ancient building here is the twelfth-century watchtower, which was originally a hunting and fishing pavilion of the Princes
of Marsiconovo, the Barons of Campagna. The Tower, which accommodates an
apartment-museum, has hosted the last sovereigns of Italy, Vittorio Emanuele III
and Queen Elena, and guests such as Jacqueline Kennedy and many other famous
personages. The owner is Prince Don Luigi d'Angerio of Saint Agata, who combines
the exquisite hospitality that he offers to the personalities that converge from
all over the world with his passion for interior decoration. Thanks to this
passion, not only the old tower but also the other buildings and the garden are
furnished with precious antique pieces.
Appartamento Luigi, about 100 square meters (1075 square feet) large,
occupies the top floor of the villa. Entry to the apartment is through
the garden, near a perfumed lemon pergola. Under this pergola, tables and chairs
are available for you to relax outdoors. A short pathway through the garden
leads to the swimming pool and solarium, and to the point of access to the sea
below. The apartment has two bedrooms, each with a double bed; it also has a
well-equipped kitchen, a bathroom, and a spacious living room with a fireplace.
The bedrooms and the living room have a view of the sea and are furnished with
authentic antique furniture, paintings and lamps. The living room is connected
to a romantic loggia perched directly above the sea, where the spectacular view
is framed by marble columns.
The kitchen is new and fully functional, equipped with a refrigerator, a
4-burner stove and a hood fan. The bathroom has a shower. The
majolica floors of Appartamento Luigi have been crafted and hand-painted by
local artisans. The apartment has a phone connection to the reception area of
the villa. The price includes linen and towels as needed, access to the sea,
use of the swimming pool (open from May to October) and use of the guarded
parking space.

The Campania region
If you think you have no idea of where Campania is, think again. This fascinating land, rich in gulfs, islands and legendary places, is home to the charming landscapes of the Amalfi Coast, Sorrento, the Cilento National Park, Capri and Ischia.
The Campania region is situated in the South of Italy and bounded by the Tyrrhenian Sea (that’s the name of that stretch of Mediterranean). The region is divided into five provinces, whose capitals are Salerno, Caserta, Avellino, Benevento and Naples (Napoli). Naples is also the capital city of the region itself. With roughly 6 million of residents, half of which lives around the city of Naples, Campania has more people than Finland, packed in an area which is 200 times smaller.
If you are fond of archeology, architecture, or simply want to see history come back to life, Campania is a must. The archeological heritage is huge: the temples left by the Greeks in Paestum, the buried towns of Pompeii and Herculaneum, the remains of Velia, the masterpieces kept in the museums, the churches… and, of course!, the Royal Palace of Caserta, built to be the most sumptuous palace of Europe, with its 1200 rooms.
If the majesty you prefer is the majesty of nature, Campania will not disappoint you. The sandy beaches and the crystal-clear waters of the Cilento National Park, the amazing scenery of the Amalfi Coast, the islands of the Gulf of Naples are just a sampler of what lies ahead of you. From the underground depths of the caves of Pertosa to the heights of Mount Vesuvius, there is something for everyone. By the way, being Mount Vesuvius an active volcano, we respectfully suggest you visit sooner rather than later.
An outline of Campania would not be complete without a mention of its culinary tradition. Many of the world-known Italian dishes have their roots in Campania: pizza, spaghetti, mozzarella, limoncello, cannelloni… Italians know Campania well for being one of the regions that offer the best food, and definitely the region where you can taste the best coffee. Espresso, cappuccino and now interesting variations on the theme such as hazelnut coffee make the day of the residents of Campania, and will make yours as well.
So don’t miss your chance to enjoy the holiday of a lifetime in this beautiful land, where art, history, nature and tradition come together to offer unforgettable thrills.
The Amalfi Coast / Amalfi area
The Amalfi Coast lies just north of Salerno. It is one of the most delightful destinations in Campania.
This spectacular coastline which embraces the charming resort towns of Positano, Praiano, Amalfi and Ravello invites us to imagine ourselves back in the sunny carefree days of the sixties - for here the beauty and romance of those times have not changed.
The people here have a strong affinity with their beloved coast and they have perfected the art of living: they are part of the elements surrounding them. Life here still revolves around the sun and sea, the enjoyment of simple pleasures. Driving along the coast, past the green terraces of grapevines, the groves of lemon and olive trees which sweep down the slopes to the clear blue water below, you are presented with a panorama of breathtaking beauty.
The soft greens of hills and valleys, the azure sea and sky, and the warm, faded yellow-pink buildings all meld together in this palette of seductive color. In small villages the air is heavy with the scent of roses and carnations. As you walk along the narrow, paved streets, the pink flowers of the oleanders hang over crumbling stone walls - and the effect is one of mellow beauty. Completely and utterly charming in its simplicity.
