You will be in the center of Praiano, approximately 100 meters (330 feet) from restaurants, the shops and the SITA bus stop. You will find the closest beach (Spiaggia della Gavitella) at roughly 500 meters (550 yards) including 400 stairway steps. You will reach Villa Gisella from the street level going up approximately 90 stairway steps.

You will not need a car to stay at Villa Gisella. If you do have one, you will be able to park it at approximately 800 meters (880 yards), in a reserved covered parking space, in a fenced yard.

The place

Villa Gisella is an independent house built on a stretch of coast which descends towards the sea. It is part of an old area of Praiano, right in the center of the town and a few feet away from shops, restaurants, bars, and a pay swimming pool placed in a panoramic position.

From the terrace, you can enjoy a splendid 180-degree view of the sea and the coast. You will be able to admire the whole fascinating arch-shaped coast where Positano is nestled. Your eyes will meet, far in the horizon, Capri with its famous Faraglioni (stacks – vertical columns of rock in the sea near the coast) and the small Li Galli islands just a little closer.

The terrace will be your favorite place to have meals outdoor while admiring wonderful sunsets over the sea.

From Villa Gisella, you can reach the sea by either taking a bus or walking until the beach "della Praia", about 1 km (about 0.6 mile) away. You can also climb a long stairway (about 400 steps) which leads to a graciously small beach called ‘’La Gavitella’’ placed in an inlet enclosed by rocks.

During spring and summer the beaches are equipped with establishments and restaurants. Several beaches have small boats which take you to numerous and enthralling small beaches along the coast. Don't miss the chance of going on those trips! From Praiano, you can easily reach the beaches of Positano and Amalfi by bus.Terrace

The Campania region

Campania region is the beginning of the 'mezzogiorno'. Translating as the 'midday' the phrase evokes the sun-baked south. And Campania - with its ancient Greek and Roman towns, rumbling volcanoes and glittering blue coastline, at times evokes Classical Greece as much as modern Italy. You could be a million miles from bureaucratic and businesslike Milan.

Throughout much of its history Campania has been at the centre of Western Civilisation's most significant entities. The area was colonised by Ancient Greeks and was within Magna Græcia, until the Roman Republic began to dominate. During the Roman era the area was highly respected as a place of culture by the emperors, where it balanced Greco-Roman culture. The area had many duchies and principalities during the Middle Ages, in the hands of the Byzantine Empire and some Lombards.

It was under the Normans that the smaller independent states were brought together as part of a sizeable European kingdom, known as the Kingdom of Sicily, before the mainland broke away to form the Kingdom of Naples. It was during this period that especially elements of Spanish, French and Aragonese culture touched Campania. Later the area became the central part of the Two Sicilies under the Bourbons, until the Italian unification of 1860 when it became part of the new state Italy.

The capital city of Campania is Naples. Campania is rich in culture, especially in regards to gastronomy, music, architecture, archaeological and ancient sites such as Pompeii, Herculaneum and Paestum. The name of Campania itself is derived from Latin, as the Romans knew the region as Campania felix, which translates into English as "fortunate countryside". The rich natural sights of Campania make it highly important in the tourism industry, especially along the Amalfi Coast, Cilento Coast, Mount Vesuvius and the island of Capri.

Amalfi Coast

Behind Capo Sottile, on the far slopes of Monte Tre Cavalli, and looking eastwards, there is the little town of Praiano.

This popular seaside resort has kept its character of quiet fishermen's village through the centuries. Located halfway between Amalfi (8 km) and Positano (7 km), Praiano is just one step away from the two most lively villages of the coast. The Sita bus line connects Praiano to Amalfi, Positano and Sorrento. The local orange bus circles around the village and takes you down to the beach and as far as Positano as well.

As a traveller going to Praiano you will appreciate its slow pace. At the same time, the quality of its restaurants as well as the friendly atmosphere of the local cafes, such as Bar del Sole, will not disappoint you. Small as it is, the village does have its own grocery stores and ATM.

The parish church, dedicated to Saint Luke, is located in the upper part of the town, in a spot with a lovely view; the church houses a precious silver figure of Saint Luke.

Praiano's beach is the small, enchanting Marina di Praia, which is situated at the end of the wild Praia valley. The surrounding cliffs have been deeply marked by erosion. On a rocky promontory stands the cylindrical mass of Torre a Mare: a medieval structure which recalls the centuries-old struggle of the area's inhabitants against the attacks of pirates.
