You will find a grocery store at 2 km (roughly 1.2 miles) and the stop for the SITA bus a few meters (feet) away. You will reach Villa Bice from the parking area going down an external stairway which consists of approximately 50 steps.
You will not need a car to stay at Villa Bice. If you do have one, you will be able to park it on the premises, free of charge inside the entrance gate.
Villa Bice is a dream accommodation, set into a green cliff that drops steeply down the sea, about 5 km (3 miles) from Amalfi. Villa Bice has its own private access to the sea and a large sea water swimming pool (carved into the rock, at the sea level). The villa is about 300 sq. mt. large (approx. 3200 sq. ft.); it sleeps six people, four in the main building, and two in the annex by the sea. Air conditioning is available in the two bedrooms in the main building only.
This property has been built with the concept of an elegant and fashionable vacation in mind. Enjoying the beauty and the sea climate of the Amalfi Coast from the terraces of the villa is a true privilege. The refinement and the size of the inner and external spaces make it an accommodation of superior level. Villa Bice is located on the coast, halfway between the road and the sea, and it is surrounded by a rich Mediterranean garden, with flowers, bougainvilleas, perfumed pine trees and lemon trees.
The main gate of the villa is at the road level and a terrace covered by a pergola supplies parking space for one car. A narrow path carved into the cliff leads to the entrance door and to another terrace (the actual roof of the house) which has been transformed in a charming hanging garden. This is indeed a lovely spot: at your back is a green amphitheatre of plants and trees - in front of you flowerbeds filled with colored flowers frame the dazzling landscape of the sea of the Amalfi Coast.
Once you enter the villa you will notice that it has been built like a theatre, with the spectacular sea on the stage. Wherever you turn your eyes, whether inside or outside the villa, the marvellous sight of the sea is always in front of you. From the main entrance of the house you enter the first floor: a large balcony that looks directly down the large hall below. The front wall has been replaced by a two-story window that lit up the whole environment. On both sides of the balcony there are two bedrooms, each with its independent dressing room and bathroom. The bedroom on the right side, which takes the right wing of the house, is the green room with its own balcony, a corner window and a large fireplace. On the left side the takes the left wing of the house there is the guests room or yellow room with a large balcony shaded by the pine trees that grow from the terrace below.
From the balcony you finally descend through a curved wooden stairs to a wide open spaced hall which is built on two levels with a nice sofa with armchairs in the middle of it. Two zones on both sides of the hall each with a fireplace are furnished with tables and chairs. Either from the front window door or from a smaller one on the left of the hall you enter the main terrace. From the smaller window door you also enter a delicious roofed corner of the garden shaded by high pine trees where there are chairs and a table. It is incredible how the trees have grown through the cracks in the rock. From this lovely corner a really impressive sight is in front of you: a small rocky bay constantly copes with the moody sea. The color of the sea constantly changes according to the sunlight and the movement of the water. From the main terrace the open sea is in front of you: it is amazing to lean out and look at the sea below that shines under the sun or moon: the water twinkles as if punches of stars have released into the waters.
The garden, with its pathways and stairs, follows the profile of the steep cliff down to the sea. Walking along the pathways you will discover many different views of the amazing panoramas of the coast. Going down towards the sea you will find a small building carved in the rock. This building has a large living room, a bedroom and a bathroom. Again a large window let you enjoy the sea-sight through the bougainvillea trees that grow from the garden below. Following the stairs towards the sea you will find a large swimming pool, filled with sea water that is continuously replaced. Not far from the swimming pool there is another terrace/solarium built on the rock. The terrace has a shower, and it is equipped with garden furniture. Here you can sunbath and have pleasant meals, as the terrace is equipped with a small kitchen with refrigerator and a bathroom. The sea can be reached descending a ladder. Also, a point where boats can berth is available. If you rent your own boat you will be able to reach the villa by sea.
Villa Bice is quiet and peaceful in its splendor. Any part of the house has been carefully designed to enhance the elegance of the ambient: pink hand painted majolica tiles, according to the tradition of the Amalfi Coast cover the floor of the house and fine antique pieces complete the elegant estate. The Campania region
Campania region is the beginning of the 'mezzogiorno'. Translating as the 'midday' the phrase evokes the sun-baked south. And Campania - with its ancient Greek and Roman towns, rumbling volcanoes and glittering blue coastline, at times evokes Classical Greece as much as modern Italy. You could be a million miles from bureaucratic and businesslike Milan.
Throughout much of its history Campania has been at the centre of Western Civilisation's most significant entities. The area was colonised by Ancient Greeks and was within Magna Græcia, until the Roman Republic began to dominate. During the Roman era the area was highly respected as a place of culture by the emperors, where it balanced Greco-Roman culture. The area had many duchies and principalities during the Middle Ages, in the hands of the Byzantine Empire and some Lombards.
It was under the Normans that the smaller independent states were brought together as part of a sizeable European kingdom, known as the Kingdom of Sicily, before the mainland broke away to form the Kingdom of Naples. It was during this period that especially elements of Spanish, French and Aragonese culture touched Campania. Later the area became the central part of the Two Sicilies under the Bourbons, until the Italian unification of 1860 when it became part of the new state Italy.
The capital city of Campania is Naples. Campania is rich in culture, especially in regards to gastronomy, music, architecture, archaeological and ancient sites such as Pompeii, Herculaneum and Paestum. The name of Campania itself is derived from Latin, as the Romans knew the region as Campania felix, which translates into English as "fortunate countryside". The rich natural sights of Campania make it highly important in the tourism industry, especially along the Amalfi Coast, Cilento Coast, Mount Vesuvius and the island of Capri.
The Amalfi Coast / Conca dei Marini area
Conca dei Marini, pearl of Amalfi Coast where, amongst scented lemon orchards and flamboyant flowers, sea legends rest.
Less titled than the close Amalfi, Ravello and Positano, the village has impeccably preserved the old charm of fishing village, with isolated white houses set into the rock, like precious stones.
Dark green of a prosperous and thick vegetation, spotted here and there by the bright yellow of the splendid lemons of the Coast: these are the dominant colours of the area, wholly enjoyable from the stunning panoramas.
The village expands itself all along a small bay, overlooking the so-called Torre Saracena - Saracen Tower - a guard tower built in 1563 with defensive purposes: to prevent probable Saracen pirates' invasions.
The popularity of Conca dei Marini is due to the presence of Grotta dello Smeraldo... a marvellous karst cavity, one of the most famous in the world! Officially discovered by a local fisherman, Luigi Buonocore, in 1932, but actually renowned from the XX century. The name derives from the several shades of emerald green that colour the water: phenomenon caused by a submarine fissure that filter the sunlight.
A long time ago the Grotta was situated above the sea level and abundant karstification processes formed numerous stalagmites, sometimes united to from huge columns, 10 metres high. A bradyseism phenomenon let down the cave's floor and the Grotta sank into the water. A rare species of Cnidaria (Anemonactis mazely) live under the cave.
In 1956, the locals created a spectacular underwater nativity scene with pottery statues. Every Christmas, a group of scuba divers put down the Infant Jesus' foot bunches of coloured fresh flowers. You will be able to see all this from the crystalline waters.
Grotta dello Smeraldo is accessible by both sea and land (from SS 163), where you'll find an elevator.
Just above Conca dei Marini you will find the Convent of St Rosa built in the XIV century. The Convent is famous to be the birthplace of the internationally renowned Neapolitan dessert sfogliatella, which was first made by the nuns in the XVII century. This delicious dessert is celebrated every year on 30th August, with the local Festa della St Rosa.

Car hire available at www.antares91.com and www.autoeurope.com
From the airport you can reach Amalfi / Conca dei Marini
by car: take the Statale 163 (State Highway 163), which runs along the southern side of the Sorrentine peninsula to Salerno, is better known as the Amalfi Drive. From Naples via the A3 Autostrada to Castellammare di Stabia, which is on the northern side of the Sorrentine peninsula and is linked to Sorrento farther west by Statale 145. Beyond Sorrento, Statale 145 winds westward around the tip of the peninsula and returns eastward along its southern edge as Statale 163 - the Amalfi Drive. The road is a concrete ribbon that rewards visitors with mountain-meets-sea views at every turn, but driving it, as well as the narrow hairpin roads of the Sorrentine peninsula, can be both a joy and a challenge. Medium-size cars are a good compromise.
By public transportation: From Naples you need to take a taxi or bus to the railway station at Piazza Garibaldi.
The cheapest solution from Naples is "Napoli Centrale", in Piazza Garibaldi, where on a lower level you can get the Circumvesuviana local train to Sorrento .
In Sorrento, close to the station is the "SITA" bus stop to Positano-Praiano-Amalfi.
The Sita bus station faces the exit of Circumvesuviana. There is a news-stand nearby where to buy your ticket. You should buy bus tickets before you get on the vehicle. When you board the bus, validate your ticket in the yellow machine located at the front.
