Hillview self-catering holiday cottage near Blairgowrie, Scotland has been a home-from-home to many people over the past 19 years who have wished to explore the surrounding area. The holiday cottage is in an ideal location for visiting Perthshire, Angus, Fife, the Highlands and the Edinburgh area. Is it your dream to stay in a traditional holiday cottage? This former shepherd's cottage is built in stone and is full of charm and character.
Our guests over the years have told us how much they have enjoyed sitting out in the front garden and watching the birds. You can see anything from bluetits, robins and chaffinches to woodpeckers, partridges, pheasants and various birds of prey. And there are animals too like deer, red squirrel, hedgehogs, rabbits and hares. You can even watch them from the bedroom window. In fact, some of our guests buy bird and animal food from garden centres and leave it near the window.
Don't forget to bring your camera and binoculars!
Round the back of the property there is another small garden with wild flowers, heather and a clothes line. There is also space for parking two cars.
There is a front and back door. If you enter by the front door to your right you will find the master bedroom with a king-size bed and lovely new wooden furniture. The room is south-facing and as such gets a lot of light. There is also an beautiful en-suite toilet attached to the bedroom.
The spacious lounge is to your left on entering the house – it is south-facing too, and you are welcome to light the open fire (we supply you with the first lot of coal and logs. The room has a brand new three-piece suite, there is a small collection of book as well as a flat screen TV and DVD player.
The kitchen is west-facing, and has all the necessary equipment should you wish to cook and eat at home. There are 4 ceramic hobs, an oven, grill, microwave, fridge-freezer, dishwasher and washing machine, round table and chairs.
Just off the kitchen there is a small hallway giving you access to the back door and large storage cupboard.
Finally, there is lovely bathroom with toilet, sink and large bath with electric shower over. In 2012 it was fully tiled in Italian style ceramic by one of our local craftsmen.
Central heating is included in the price of the rent.

About this location
The Perth and Kinross region
The Tayside/Perthshire region is one of the lush and green, and has more trees in it than the rest of the country. The weather is generally milder than other areas, and Dundee has been proven to be the sunniest place in Scotland. There are hills, glens, lakes, rivers and forests. In summertime the hills are full of pink and purple heather, berries and wildflowers. You can also visit the oldest tree in Britain - found in the Hermitage, Dunkeld - and the tallest beech hedges in the world. The area is also famous for its trout and salmon fishing, with permits available from local shops. Keen golfers can enjoy playing some rounds in one of the many nearby courses, and in nearby Fife you can visit the home of golf and the Golf Museum in St Andrews. Nearby there is Glamis Castle, Scone Palace (where the former kings of Scotland were crowned) and lots of other historic sites. Local crafts such as pottery, knitwear and tartan clothwear can be purchased as souvenirs, and there are also delicious local delicacies to choose from - honey, jams, oatcakes, smoked salmon, venison, to name but a few. We can also recommend some superb restaurants that offer distinctive Scottish cuisine.
Blairgowrie is a lovely, lively town situated on the River Ericht. You can take a walk along the river and visit museums set up in old factories along its banks. Fishing permits can be purchased from a shop in the town, along with equipment and tackle. The town organises numerous events throughout the year with highland games, dancing, pipe bands and farmers markets selling local produce. There are lots of interesting shops too selling local foods, kilts, Scottish music and souvenirs. Cosy coffee shops and friendly pubs are also in abundance. In the surrounding hills and mountains there are numerous centres offering horse riding, extreme sports, kayaking and skiing.

"A lovely cottage with a beautiful view"
We had a wonderful week at Hillview Cottage. It is peaceful and secluded with the most wonderful view across the Vale of Strathmore. The cottage is perfect for two people, with everything one might need. Its position enabled us to visit Perth and St Andrews quite easily and Dundee also is within comfortable reach. We enjoyed driving further north into the wonderful scenery round Pitlochry. David and Morag Miller were wonderful hosts and their friendliness and that of their family enhanced our stay enormously. The booking experience was most efficient and everything went to plan. Our thanks to the Miller family for our happy week.

"Absolutely beautiful, perfect in every way"
My spouse and I (from Canada) recently stayed at Hillview, and it exceeded our expectations. It's an achingly beautiful, and superbly renovated old Shepards cottage, that had everything we needed and more. It's quiet and secluded, but perfectly located for exploring bonnie Scotland, We could not have asked for more. It was perfect. The owners and their families were truly wonderful hosts, and made us feel so welcome. We can't wait to go back
