About the home

Villa Limao is just 5 minutes drive from the Algarve´s oldest golf course, Penina and 10 minutes from the charming fishing village of Alvor, with its tidal lagoon offering boat and fishing trips of all kinds and a stunning long beach with a selection of beach bars. If you are looking for a relaxing holiday with a good selection of restaurants, shops and beaches close by Villa Limao is ideal.

Our modern home has everything you need for a relaxing and comfortable holiday. The pool is a great sunny place to lounge around and there are always shady areas around the house too. Each bedroom opens onto a terraced area, with stunning country views from the generous first floor terrace. The modern, well equipped kitchen opens out onto the outdoor dining and BBQ area. We have even provided an extra fridge to ensure you have a good supply of cool drinks! There is also a downstairs cloakroom. If you just want to relax indoors, the comfortable lounge has aircon, as do all the bedrooms.

Owners live locally and are happy to share their local knowledge and recommendations.
Languages spoken: English, French, Dutch, some German.

• Information book on the wide range of facilities and activities available on the Algarve is in the villa. We also have a Visitors Book where guests are invited to add their recommendations and suggestions
• On the ground floor there are some single steps in the house and outside there are several steps up to the pool area

O A non-refundable booking deposit of 500 Pounds Sterling per week is required on booking and the balance of the account is required no less than 6 weeks prior to departure date
For bookings made within 6 weeks of departure, full payment is required with your booking.
Payment can be made by bank transfer (details upon request)
o A refundable damage deposit of €300 (or the equivalent in Pounds Sterling) is required on arrival.

The Algarve / West Algarve region

West is Best!! Enjoy sunny day after sunny day with average summer temperatures in the 30's. Nestling between the stunning mountains of Monchique and the golden beaches, the western Algarve has so much to offer everyone from the historic towns to the numerous golf courses and waterparks.

A little to the east of Casa Limao is the old Moorish capital of Silves with its castle's red walls standing out in a commanding positon on the skyline and one of the best fish and shellfish restaurants on the Algarve. 10 minutes due south of us is the quaint town of Alvor with beautilful beaches and diverse restaurants (please see below), Just to the east of Alvor is Portimao, the second largest town on the Algarve, from where the River Arade flows up to Silves and beyond, with a natural harbour and marina it is a favorite with yacht owners and a wonderful place to sit and watch the water traffic. Portimao is also renowned for its sardine restaurants, which have moved from the historic old buildings by the river bridge a little further upstream into new polished premises, a lot of the character has been lost but the sardines are still excellent.

In Casa Inglesia a real Portuguese cafe on the waterfront you can buy lovely little almond paste treats, made locally in the shapes of fish, chickens, fruit and vegetables alongside these are various types of fig cakes these are all made from local ingredients. The beach resort of Praia da Rocha is at the mouth of the river, with its spectacular cliffs, one of most famous beaches on the Algarve and more night life than can be visited on a weeks vacation! West of Alvor is the long long (4kms) beach of Meia Praia, is just before the historic town of Lagos which lies 20 minutes west of Casa Limao, with its 8th centuary fortifications, statue of Henry the Navigator who gazes scowlingly out to sea and the remains of the first slave market in Europe these all rub shoulders with the modern marina, many little shops and lovely restaurants.

The promontory of Ponta da Piedade, just south of the town, is a series of wonderful rock formations, caves and clear waters, where fishermen try to entice you into a boat trip. Still heading west, past the pretty beach resort of Luz and tiny fishing village of Salema lies Sagres, which is synonymous with the Portuguese explores. Henry the Navigator built the fortress and as tradition tells the school of navigation and boat yard. After that comes the ‘end of the world’ , the most southwesterly point in Europe Cabo Sao Vincente with its lighthouse. Take a woolie its always chillie down there.

The Alvor area

There is so much to do in and around Alvor. If you are feeling energetic there is surfing, wind surfing and kite surfing or if you are a little more laid back why not take a boat trip around to Lagos or try your luck at sea fishing, perhaps a river boat trip from Portimao to Silves, Dolphin watching is always popular too.

For the Kids there is Zoomarine, with its dolphin shows, the parrots, amusement fair and water fun. There are 2 great water parks (for big kids and little kids) with flumes and pools within easy reach and an ecological Zoo in Lagos which has a childrens’ area where you can buy food to feed the goats and pigs. As if this wasn’t enough there are numerous golf courses within easy reach, an outstanding Karting Track at the new F1 Autodrome which is only a stones throw away and coastal flights are available from the aerodrome at Alvor!!
If shopping is your bag …… the new centre in Portimao may be just what you need, AQUA has a wide variety of shops and on the 3rd floor cafes, and a food court with a very good (and inexpensive) Asian restaurant, local restaurants and ……………. Mc Donalds!! Practical shopping in the form of Lidl, Pingo Doce and Continente are all fairly close by and all have cash points.

Alvor village itself is a maze of narrow streets, lanes and blind alleys, founded possibly the Carthaginians and sadly flattened by the great earthquake of 1755 it lost some of its character in the re-building but today it is a charming village of white houses perched on a hill below the church and overlooking the lagoon and sand dunes. A few of the old local fishermen still clean their catch by the old fish market and meet up with their friends to chat away the hours.

During the day Alvor is a sleepy seaside village but by night there is quite a vibrant scene, with many diverse bars and restaurants touting their wares. You can choose anything from shellfish prepared at your table, via a great Italian restaurant to a pie and a pint!! After all this wining and dining there are 2 taxi ranks to get you safely home.

Security Deposit: €300 (we will accept Sterling equivalent) payable on arrival. This covers a final

cleaning cost of €50 and the remainder will be refundable in full two weeks after departure. Please note that this deposit will not be applied against accidental damage e.g. broken glassware and crockery. It is intended to cover damage to the property or contents as well as irresponsible, use of water, electricity, gas and wood.

Air conditioning will be charged at €80 per week.

Arrivals / Departures: Change over day is flexible. Arrival time at the villa from 4pm. Guests are requested to depart by 10a.m. on their last day.

The villa will be cleaned for your arrival, linen and towels are changed weekly. (Beach towels not provided)
