About the home

This top quality apartment has a very large dining/sitting/kitchen area. 6 Seated Table. One Bedroom with 2 single beds and 2 pull out beds in lounge area. 2 balconys with BBQ & seating area. The apartment complex is set in a quiet location with a private drive in entrance. It is set in approx 5 acres of beautiful landscaped gardens, a lake size pool with children's pool and children's play area.

Vila marachique is next to ALTO GOLF, close to PENINA GOLF AND GENERALLY A GREAT BASE FOR GOLF ALL YEAR ROUND. Aqua Land , Zoo Marine and similar attractions are all within 30 mins drive. The local beach is clean sandy unpolluted.There are good restaurants 2 mins walk from complex.

Alvor is a popular and cobbled street old town full of interesting shops bars and restaurants. Down by the fishing harbour promenade makes a lovely place to watch the sun set.

Vila Marachique has a beautiful large lagoon style pool with swim up bar and plenty of relaxing chairs and sun umbrellas, there is also an excellent children's swimming area and close by is the kiddies play area. The pool is set in well kept extensive lawns with beautiful trees and shrubs. Alvor is an easy taxi ride for under €5 and a bus service runs right outside the complex. If you feel like walking into the village it will only take 20mins down hill. Alvor is full of life in the summer season and has got a great array of restaurants and bars. There are 2 very good restaurants adjacent to the Villa Marachique complex.

The Algarve / West Algarve region

The Algarve enjoys a mild climate most of the year. The gentle sea breeze stops it getting too humid in summer and in winter it is mild and sunny most of the time. There are many days in winter when it is warm enough to play golf or partake in other sports with just t-shirt and shorts on.

A short journey inland from Alvor brings you to a more traditional Algarve with historic Silves and the Sierra beyond with the delightful Monchique- an excellent retreat in the heat of high summer! Alvor is an all year round destination for Golf enthusiasts.

Alvor offers a choice of beaches and a harbour and estuary with a protected wildlife area, boat trips, canoe hire and dolphin spotting. Livelier night life is available at Praia da Rocha for the more energetic and young at heart . For the younger members of the family there are many attractions including Zoo Marine, Aqualand,Slide and Splash ect.

There is also some great shopping in nearby Portaimo and the Algarve shopping centre in guia. The landscape is amazingly diverse from the wild west coast (towering cliffs and huge ocean breakers-surfer's paradise!) through the western central Algarve with gentler beaches and estuaries with marinas (lagos, Portimao) and the traditional holiday destinations of Praia da Rocha, Vilamoura,ect.

The Alvor / Marachique area

Alvor is a classic old fishing village. Narrow cobbled streets lead down to a huge beautiful beach and harbour.
The streets are full of shops restaurants, cafes and bars with very child friendly service and stay open late you will have plenty of everything for the family to enjoy.

Alvor beach caters for all water sports and has numerous beach side restaurants. There is a daily market for food, and a bustling gypsy street market every 2nd Tuesday, There is also a skydiving centre nearby complete with cafe to watch. There are boat trips also from Alvor harbour, a wide range of different trips from fishing to dolphin watching.

Vila Marachique is NEXT TO ALTO GOLF, CLOSE TO PENINA GOLF and within easy drive of many other golf courses. Good deals for golf packages are easily found on the Internet. There are 2 very good restaurants a few mins. walk from Vila Marachique. Alvor has its own small wildlife reserve with protected unspoilt beaches and dunes that form a safe harbour at the entrance to the estuary.

Boat trips, canoe hire and dolphin watching trip are available at the harbour area.

“Superb complex, fantastic family holiday” Have stayed in Portugal before and thoroughly enjoyed it, but this was even better. Definitely one of the best family holidays we've had. The apartment was spacious and well equipped with more than enough room for a family of four. It had a toaster, microwave, toastie maker, oven, fridge, hob, dishwasher, kettle. BBQ and washing machine - all the mod cons you would expect to find in top quality accomodation. The pool area was ideal for kids and adults alike. Loads of space around the pool and the surrounding grass banks were ideal for sunbathing, removing the need to get up ridiculously early to secure a sunbed. Spotlessly clean, nice bar and very secure, as a key pass is required to access the pool and surrounding area. If we had one negative, it would be that the location of the site could be nearer to the centre of Alvor. However, we didn't mind the 20 minute walk but occasionally got a taxi back (4 euros max). It's worth the walk as we thought Alvor was a lovely village and there are lots of fantastic restaurants so you definitely won't be stuck for places to eat. We would also highly recommend the restaurant across the road from the complex called Por de Sol - great service and lovely food. Portimao and Praia de Rocha are within easy reach by taxi and are defintely worth a visit, with some fantastic beaches. Would also highly recommend a boat trip and day out in Lagos. For the basics, there is a small shop just a 5 min walk away and a larger supermarket in Alvor, although Aldi in Portimao is far better value, and worked out cheapar even with the taxi cost added in. Fabulous apartment, a real home away from home. Clean & Modern. Situated in a beautiful complex, fantastic pool we couldn't stay away from it. Alvor is a perfect holiday getaway. Delicious restaurants and night time entertainment. We will definitely be returning again. Rachel & David Watters, Dublin. Ireland.

My husband, daughter and I stayed in vila marachique for a week in June & September.
The 1 bedroom apartment was well equipped and all nescessary kitchen appliances and utensils were available, including tv and dvd player, travel cot, hairdryer and even books to read while we were there and toys for children to pay with.
The apartment was spotlessly clean, air conditioned. The pool area is spectacular with a small childrens pool and a large pool which never gets crowded, there were always plenty of sun loungers available. The gardens are quite large with plenty of trees to sit under for shade and there is a childrens play area. It is particularly safe for families as a security fob is needed to enter the pool area. The pool bar serves drinks, and ice-cream.
There is a fabulous restaurant directly across the road from the complex, and another a 4 min walk away, there is also a small shop just around the corner and a larger supermarket in the village
The village of alvor is approx a 10min walk all downhill, there is a bus service outside the complex and regular taxis which cost approx €4.
Beach is also around a 10 min walk away but I am not a beach person.
Alvor has an abundance of great restaurants and bars to suit all tastes and budgets.
All in all could not fault this complex or recommend it highly enough.
Will definately be back next year.
