The Aegean Coast region

Temperatures start rising about March time, July and August are in the mid thirties. The local beaches are sandy and there are stunning views of the nearby mountains. Here is a selection of some of the many excursions and activities available to book from the Clover Court Complex, similar trips are available from different companies in Altinkum:
Pamukkale, one of Turkey's most famous natural wonders, is a white plateau made form travertine deposits of calcium oxide, filled with hot spring water, which you can swim in and is said to have been the first health resort in the world. You will also visit the ancient city of Hierapolis which is next to the springs. Excursion includes door to door pick up in an air-conditioned coach, entrance fees and an English-speaking guide. You can include Ephesus and have a 2 day excursion with an overnight stay in a first class hotel including dinner and breakfast.
You can book a boat trip to the five islands from the pool bar a day before you go, for a very reasonable price. You will be picked up by coach and taken to the boat where you will set off on your trip. As the name suggests you will visit five different islands or beaches with lunch included in the price. There is a bar on board serving alcoholic and soft drinks. At each stop you can swim, or jump from the boat, or just sunbathe on the deck. Banana boat rides are available at some of the stops. The friendly crew will supervise and entertain you through the day.
Dalyan is a tiny village, surrounded by breathtaking scenery. You will ride a riverboat past the 2000 year old rock tombs carved into the face of the cliff's alongside the river, leading to the Dalyan delta, with its golden sandy beach. The area is a natural preserve for the loggerhead turtle. You will stop along the way to enjoy a mud bath and the sulphur springs.
Ephesus was founded by one of the generals of Alexander the great at 289 B.C. Visit the city where Cleopatra and Marc Anthony once walked. there is lots to see, from the Library, to the 25000 seat amphitheatre, which is still used today by artists during international festivals. Excursion includes door to door pickup in an air-conditioned coach, an English speaking guide, and an open buffet lunch. Can be combined with Pamukkale for a 2 day delight excursion including a night in a 1st class hotel with dinner and breakfast.
Bodrum is only an hour away with its castle and old town, and for the young several night clubs. The locals are extremely friendly and always willing to help. The majority speak English.
There are many more excursion and activities available, from jeep safari's, to scuba diving, Turkish nights, to day trips to Kos, I will add more when I get the pictures!
The Altinkum / Didim area
The complex is situated in a lively area with many local shops and restaurants. The town is 1.5km away and the sea is approx 4km away and has three lovely sandy beaches. There is also a new Marina opened this year. The local buses run every 15 minutes to the town and the sea ,and most of the restaurants will pick you up and take you home in the evening for no extra charge.
There are lots of historical sites to see in the local area, including the stunning Temple of Apollo which is only a 15 minute walk away and well worth a visit day or night. The entrance is very cheap and the temple is surrounded by traditional shops selling local goods.
There are many restaurants and bars open throughout the year, including Valentine's Bar & Big Ben which both serve dishes from all over the world and a huge selection of drinks and cocktails.as well as the supermarkets and a variety of shops. Most of the staff speak very good English, and a growing number are open all year round! Also many restaurants offer a free car service to and from the apartment!
Altinkum has lots to do day or night: visit one of the many sandy beaches, shop till late in the centre for those bargain's, or perhaps visit the Temple for some History. The local buses (called Dolmus) run every few minutes all day and until very late at night taking you between all the beaches, supermarkets and sights, and will take you anywhere in Altinkum for 1.25 Tl (about 50p). There are also taxi's at all popular locations, although many restaurants will offer a free car service to and from the apartment! Two large supermarkets as well as many smaller shops offer all of the essential and luxury items for if you choose to have a night in the apartment.
Altinkum has three main beaches, each with its own bars and restaurants, and activities from banana boat rides, to hiring pedal boats, jet skis and even speedboats! There are also day trips to Kos, and scuba diving lessons for beginner to expert (though I would recommend booking these from the Clover Court bar). There are also many smaller beaches along the coastline if you fancy something quieter.
Altinkum's largest beach, called the first beach is the busiest with a large variety of restaurants bars and shops all along the promenade. It is also the main place to book a ride on a banana boat, or hire a pedal boat, jet ski, or speedboat. There's enough here to keep most people occupied for the whole day! Altinkum's second beach has many shops, restaurants and bars, and fantastic views along the coast. Altinkum's 3rd beach is alongside the new marina, which will be completed for the start of the Summer season 2009. The large marina will have many shops and restaurants, and other facilities including a tennis court.
Altinkum is alive at night, with a huge selection of restaurants and bars to choose from. Dance till sunrise at Medusa, or one of the many other clubs, or have a quiet drink or a meal with a view of Altinkum at night. Most restaurants are open til very late and serve English, Turkish, Mexican, Indian and Italian food, at very reasonable prices.
Didim's nearest aquapark is only a short coach ride away from the apartment, and trips can be booked from the pool bar. It's good value and should keep anyone entertained for the whole day. There's something to do for everyone, from the tame meandering blue slide, to the boomerang slide (not for the faint-hearted!). There is also an open air restaurant, a bar and plenty of sunbeds if you just want to relax and let the kids explore the park.
