Altinkum

Altinkum and it's environs Many people, upon first hearing the name "Didim" referring to the place in which they are staying are quite confused. They are not even aware that Altinkum is, in fact, a part of Didim... as are Yesilkent, Mavisehir, Yenihisar and Akbuk. There are over 30 beaches in and around Didim, most of which are completely unknown to both tourists and residents alike. Many of them are little more than private, secluded bays, but they are there all the same.

Bodrum airport is just over an hour away and Izmir about an hour and a half. Typically a transfer from Bodrum will cost a family of four £40. Many cafes and restaurants will pick up and return their customers.

1 mile to Temple of Apollo 6 miles to a new water park.

There is a huge market in Didim each Saturday which will take you at least 3 visits to completely see. The local shops and restaurants offer great service and fantastic value. There are 3 good sized supermarkets nearby.

English is readily understood everywhere.

There are hundreds of hotels in Didim, offering a wide range of standards from the 1-star guest house type pensions, across the board to 5-stars. Two of these are in Akbuk, another is nearing completion near to "3rd Beach" and a fourth hotel has 5-star facilities. There are many extremely good quality 3-star hotels around too. As with the hotels, there are also restaurants to be found everywhere, by the dozen. A large number of these are located on the seafront promenade and generally cater to British tastes, with even the Turkish dishes on the menus being prepared with this in mind. There are now several Chinese restauarants, a traditional Fish and Chippy, and a Balti House Indian. Most of the restaurants offer full English breakfast, for this is still extremely poplular with the tourists. For fish lovers, Didim offers several good fish restaurants, such as the "Acik" and "Kamaci", located opposite the Apollo Temple, "Kamaci 2", down by tyhe harbour, and going a bit further afield, at Tasburun, which is after the Aquapark, one can find small fish restaurants offering very fresh produce. For traditional Turkish cuisine, "Sehir Lokantasi" in Yenihisar is still the most popular, with locals and foreigners, offering a huge selection of Turkish dishes.

The night life in Didim is varied with something for everyone. There are bars where one can sit and relax and have a chat, with background music, before going on to others that offer bingo, quizzes, game shows and karaoke. For the night owls, there are the dance bars, such as "Galaxy", "Garden Bar", "Seal Bar" and "Rooftop", which stay open until 3am. Then for the dawn breakers, the nightclubs such as "Garden Bar", the open air "Medusa"

"Second time unlucky"

Our family (8 people in total) stood at the Royal Apartments for about two weeks in the second part of June. It's been the second year in a row we decided for a 'Royal' property. Even though we had some issues last year we thought we give them another shot this time around. Unfortunately we experienced pretty much the same things as last year.

First of all, don't expect to be given the property you see on the pictures. This is a complex with a few dozens of apartments and you are given whatever is free during the period you have booked. For the second year in a row our apartment was not cleaned to a standard you would expect. A good number of days before arrival we had also contacted the site manager about the number of linen, cutlery, crockery, cot bed, high chair etc. required and we were ensured that everything will be in place upon arrival. Needless to day it was not - for the second year in a row. We had to wait a couple of hours in the apartment for everything to be put in place - time we would have liked to spend as 'proper' holiday. To top it all, the toilet in the ensuite was also broken upon arrival so 8 people had to use the one toilet in the main bathroom. It took the site manager 4 days to have the toilet fixed.

Given that Dream Homes got their second chance with us already this year we decided not to rent one of their properties again. I'd advise to rather rent directly from an owner. We had much better luck that way previously.

"Great apartments!"

I have been going to Altinkum for the past 5 years many times a year, the past 2 years I have stayed at the Royal Apartments four times and have no faults whats so ever. The staff are all very friendly and helpful and the security you have at the apartments is great. I have stayed in both the 2 and three bedroom apartments and even tho they all differ in styles and sizes I couldn't possibly complain for what we got. Your in the heart of dolphin square and so close to the beach and bars yet it's still very quite at night for when you want an early night! Great value for money, fantastic pool area with wifi in some areas and great sun catcher and I'm so excited to be returning back in 11 weeks!!

"just above average"

The title royal appartments was a let down the apartments were very average.Saying that the apartments were clean and tidy the staff could not do enough to help, but i still think the apartments were overated and couls certainly need refurbishment.

"Great location, average apartment"

The apartment was in a great location and the staff very helpful but a lot needs updating. pillows and mattresses were stained, no protectors on either.. although apartment was supposed to sleep eight there werre not eight of all crockery items. pool area was kept clean by lovely man but mattresses on sun beds were worn and stained and if you didnt get up early to reserve your sun bed you had no chance. nowhere near enough sun beds.

"perfect location"

a fabulous holiday...the apartment was an extremely large and spacious with two bathrooms (ideal with 5 females!!). very close to the beach, supermarkets, bars and restaurants. very friendly staff and excellent service. not an overcrowded pool and we will all be looking forward to returning next year....could not fault it. There was a lift to the apartment and even though we were close to shops and restaurants etc there was no noise...perfect holidays 10/10!!

"Fantastic location, just 2 minutes walk from the main dolphin square and all the cafe,s and bars"

On arrival met by friendly helpful staff who showed us to our 3 bedroomed apartment, and I was very surprised, it was extremely spacious and well appointed for a holiday let. By far the best I have experienced in many years holidaying in Turkey. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff who are polite and very helpful. The facilities are terrific, the location can't be bettered and the whole holiday was fantastic. I would have no hesitation recommending the Royal Apartments to anybody at all. In fact I've stayed twice and both times was a pleasure, book, you will not regret it.

"Ticks every box"

Stopped here a total of 3 months last year. (2011) It is in the centre of Altinkum, yet you get no noise. The penthouse apartment we rented had a marvellous big balcony. We had a large tv, and sattelite. We had 2 bedrooms that all had air con in. And all other modern facilities. We stayed in May, June, and September. And always had room around the pool. There is no shallow end in the pool. There is a kid's part. That is fenced of, by a rail. And you have to get out by means of 2 ladders in the big pool. There are shops across the road, and supermarkets 5 minutes walk. The beach is only 5 minutes walk, and you can see the sea/ harbour from the balcony we had. There are apts that have 3 bedrooms. So if you get a flight to Bodrum, private transfer to Altinkum is only £40. Then you could split price of apt 6 ways. It is a cheap good holiday. Will be back there again in June. Forgot to say there is a English chip shop about 100yds away. So you have a nice apt. good location. good weather , good people , and a good price. Plus good food all around . PERFECT
