The Aegean Coast region

The Aegean Coast tempts tourists to Turkey with its long, beautiful beaches and pine covered hills. Ancient port towns such Kusadasi and Bodrum have re-invented themselves as modern-day resorts with well-developed tourist infrastructures. Way back in the 2nd Century, Greek travellers have written a glowing review of the Aegean Coast, praising its pleasant climate and splendid architecture. The farther south you go the better the climate gets and there's plenty to see and lots of sunshine, and it’s easy to get to with regular scheduled and charter flights in to Bodrum or Izmir in the north.

According to myth, "After God created men, he shook off the scrap clay from his hands; and the pieces of clay fell on the Aegean Sea. The islands and shores of this region are so awe inspiring because they have been created from the same clay with men." With its thousands of islands of which some are not even shown on the maps and with its curved shores

Didim is set on this fantastic geographical part of the world. It is 175 km south from the Turkey's third largest city Izmir; 70 km from Kusadasi and 110 km from Bodrum, which are the two important touristic resorts of the country.

Altinkum

Altinkum, meaning 'Golden Sand', is one of Turkey's most popular tourist resorts. The three main sandy beaches and numerous secluded coves are all clean, with a gently shelved shore into the beautiful turquoise Aegean Sea: ideal for swimming, fishing, water sports and pure relaxation. Altinkum is an excellent place for families, children are welcomed everywhere. Hotels and restaurants almost always provide play areas and special menus to cater for children. Enjoy the splendid tastes of the local Turkish cuisine. Full range of British and European dishes are available in all restaurants.

For those with a longing for some home pleasures, we recommend visiting the english owned and managed Altinkum Tea Rooms, providing authentic english breakfasts and lunches. Sample the home cooked scones and desserts with a real mug of english tea!, located just around the corner from apartment, 1 minute walk.

For the young there are the bars and bustle of Dolphin Square and the famous Medusa nightclub within ten minutes walk of the main beach.

The main beach seafront of Altinkum is approx 200m from apartment and is pedestrianised with a larger selection of shops, bars and restaurants offering cuisine to suit all tastes. Shopping centre, supermarkets, foodstores within 2 minutes of apartment.

Dolphin Square is approx 2 mins walk where there are an abundance of bars/restaurants

The local transport bus called the Dolmus will take you anywhere in the resort and surrounding areas.

Spend the day at the amazing Didim Aquapark and in the evening entertain the children at the local carnival and funfair, experience a Turkish bath and massage, just some of the many local attractions to avail of.

Altinkum is ideally geographically placed for visiting such marvels as -

Temple of Apollon (erected 800BC), Didyma, Ephesus, House of the Virgin Mary, Priene, Miletus, Bafa lake.

Other magical excursions available locally -

Dalyan Delta where one can visit Turtle Beach, swim in the Mediterranean, have a mud bath and see the Lycean tombs.

Pamukkale - also known as the 'Cotton Castle' a series of shallow pools filled with natural spring waters that course down the mountainside giving the effect of thousands of brilliant white shelves. Here it is possible to swim in Cleopatra's spring water pool.

You can discover the beaches, natural coves and bays by boat trips better, organised daily from the harbour in summer season which starts beginning of May. water sports, diving courses, fishing tours also available.

Local markets -

Visit Didim market or Söke and haggle your way to a bargain. Visit the evening market in Mavisehir Didim and have a dining experience while watching the famous Mavisehir sunset

"Lovely apartment and great location!"

The apartment is situated very close to the beach, bars and shops which made it ideal for us. You really cant get an apartment which is any closer to everything. The apartment itself was lovely and clean when we arrived and we really couldn't fault it. Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to stay in Altinkum.
