The Turkish Aegean Coast region
The Aegean Coast region
Altinkum lies on the western, Aegean, coast of Turkey and is a small, lively and friendly resort suitable for families and couples alike. The climate is typically Mediterranean, ranging from around 13-15ºC in winter to upwards of 40ºC in summer.
There are many places of interest in the region. ie. Temple of Apollo, Turtle Beach, Pamukkale and the renown ruins of Ephesus are less than 2 hours away. The major port of Kusadasi is also less than 2 hours away and plenty of local tour operators who you can arrange your trips with if you wish.
The main holiday season runs from the beginning of May to the end of October.
Altinkum is small and quiet, making it perfect for families with young children and those seeking a relaxed, easy going beach holiday. The resort town's main attractions are its three long sandy beaches that stretch from the harbour at one end of a gently shelving bay to a rocky cliff at the other end.
Little wonder that the name Altinkum means golden sands. In this resort devoted to leisure and pleasure, lazy days on the beach, perhaps indulging in some water sports, while night time is spent trying out the laid back restaurants and bars.
SHOPPING: shopping opportunities, in haggling Turkish style, abound along the pedestrianised seafront of Altinkum, which is packed with souvenir shops, jewellery stores and boutiques selling copies of designer clothing. The main centre is dolphin square, and a modern shopping complex called the Didyma shopping mall not far away. A must visit is the lively Saturday market where you can find all sorts of bargains and fresh local produce. I am sure you will see fruit and veg. you cannot identify and those you can will sometimes be of a colossal size. Go early - less crowded and try your bargaining skills.
Self caterers will find all the provisions they need with 5 supermarkets, Bim, Sok, Midi Tansas, Carrefour and Migros between the seafront and Didim town centre.
RESTAURANTS: Altinkum is bursting with good restaurants serving most forms of internatinal cuisine, most supply a car service just arrange a time to be picked up. Head towards Didim and try the locals' eating places incredible value for money, fabulous food all made with fresh ingredients.
NIGHTLIFE: while it is not as rowdy as the major Turkish resorts of Bodrum and Kusadasi, those who wish to indulge will find plenty of after dark entertainment and fun in Altinkum, where nightlife is centred mainly in Dolphin Square, bars along the sea front promenade and with 3 nightclubs to choose from your spoil for choice. Everything from disco dancing, karaoke and belly-dancing to bingo and pool is on offer.
ACTIVITIES: there are sun beds and umbrellas aplenty to rent on Altinkums lovely beaches, where the turquoise waters shelve gently allowing for safe swimming. Those who are more energetic can try their hand at windsurfing, jet skiing, pedaloes, a banana boat ride or perhaps a scuba diving lesson: all these activities and more are available on the beaches. A variety of tours, boat trips and excursions to surrounding resorts, towns and historic sites are available, or visitors can hop on a dolmus (mini-bus) and explore on their own.

"Not my cuppa tea!"
I am going to keep this review real and say this Apt does not have a "private" pool, it also faces out onto waste land and not a nature reserve. I rented this Apt for 6weeks, there are 2 restaurants nearby serve great food the owners are really welcoming.
Thank you for your comments. As advertised in the apartment details the pool is a shared pool and what you call 'waste land' is classified as a nature reserve by the council.

I stayed here with my husband and 3 young children. The apartment was spacious, clean and very well equipped with everything you could need on a self catering holiday. There is a good sized private pool with sun loungers, lovely private terraces - perfect for evening barbecues if you fancy a night in. A local shop for necessities is 2 minutes away, local dolmus to take you further afield which runs every 15 minutes and the beach was only a 10 minute walk away. All in all a relaxing holiday in a lovely apartment with a great central location.
