The Valenciana region

The historical town of Altea lies on the East coast of Spain. With its 3 marinas set amongst a beautiful mountainous coastline, picturesque Altea offers a true and traditional Spanish environment combined with many cosmopolitan influences. Despite its close proximity to one of Europe’s largest tourist hot spots, the white-washed old town of Altea has remained untouched by mass tourism. Altea is set around a beautiful blue roofed hill top church, clustered with white Spanish town houses.

Altea has been the holiday destination of the wealthy Spanish people from Madrid for generations because it is their nearest coastal point and more importantly, because of its all year round micro climate which ensures that the temperature does not normally fluctuate by more than 7 degrees in either direction from its 21degree average. Altea is also the closest natural geographical point to the Balearic Islands, providing easy ferry access on a daily basis to Ibiza from the nearby towns of Denia or Alicante.

The coastline offers several stunning beaches and is peppered with the popular neighbouring towns of Denia, Moraira, Javea, Albir and Calpe.

ALTEA is located on Spain's "White Coast" in the Spanish region of Valencia, just 40 mins drive from Alicante airport, and is without doubt one of the most charming towns to be found in the Costa Blanca. If you want all night discos and the bright city lights on your holiday, give these towns a miss!!

Altea is a holiday haven for the more discerning tourist who will be enthralled by its medieval cobbled streets, its picture book old quarter and the delightful palm-fringed seafront esplanade. You'll find a plethora of tiny shops offering wonderful local crafts, paintings and gifts. There are also numerous excellent restaurants where you can enjoy both local and international cuisine.

At the foot of the hill lies the wide sea promenade and main beach - Playa de la Roda, with soft white sand and lined by palm trees. L’Olla is another much-frequented beach opposite a small island of the same name. Further north is the Greenwich Marina, home to some of the most magnificent cruisers and yachts of the rich and famous. There is a good selection of bars and restaurants here from which to admire the views.

Sports & Activities

Altea has two high quality water sports centres which offer diving, sailing, windsurfing, fishing, water-skiing and local boat cruises.

Golf is available at 5 different courses all within 30 mins drive. Don Cayo – 9 holes (5 mins), Bonalba - 18 holes (20 mins), La Sella – 27 holes (20 mins), Alicante – 18 holes (25 mins), Oliva Nova – 18 holes (30 mins).

Other activities available locally are : tennis, walking, cycling, horse riding and mountain biking.

Family days out

There are some top major attractions a short drive down the road to Benidorm - Spain's biggest theme park, Terra Mitica (, the water world at Aqualandia ( and the exotic bird and marine life centre Mundomar, which has a fabulous dolphin show (

The magnificent Guadelest castle, reservoir and safari park are about a 45 min drive into the mountains. The castle village, reached through a tunnel, is a delight with many little craft and souvenir shops. La Vila Joiosa, the jewelled town, has brightly painted houses akin to Balamory and a beautiful sandy beach and historic buildings. There are a number of beautiful beaches to chose from in close proximity

"Excellent accommodation and location best on the Costa Blanca (if you have a car as we did)"

The 2 bedroom apartment was perfect for my parents 65yrs old, my wife & my 2yr old. They have a good pool and a kids play area and the complex is very secure. The sea views are beautiful from both the large terrace and the very comfortable master bedroom which was large enough for a travel cot which Sarah provided. You do need a car as Altea hills is a 1hr15m walk into Altea town although the harbour with shops, bars etc is a 50 min stroll. Although location and flat make up for it! Sarah was easy to deal with and we had no problems. The appt could do with an internet connection as we stayed 3 weeks but for one weekers its easy to pop out to the town or down to the P&V hotel in the Altea Hills complex allows you to pay using their access. This would have been rated as excellent if we were able to use main road gate access from the appt to access the shops etc in the complex and other areas. This makes it a 15/20 min stroll down the main road as opposed to the primary road/walk access which is a 40min walk around the houses! Gets irritating after a while! No English TV for cold winter nights or internet so take DVD's and games.

"Location stunning but take linen"

Apartment was grubby. The floor had hairs all over it from a dirty mop and main bathroom had spot of excrement on it. One bath towel and hand towel for each occupant for two weeks. No spare sheets for… More

We were sorry to hear of the problems encountered by this guest and have made every effort to respond quickly to the issues raised during their stay and those raised subsequently. This is the first time since commencing letting the appartment in 2006/7 that we have had negative feedback. A disappointing review but one that we do not feel is in anyway representative of the quality which others have enjoyed when staying at our appartment.

"A piece of Heaven on Earth"
