The Costa Blanca / Valencia / Alicante Province region

The pretty town of Altea looks to the sea across one of the most delightful coves on the Mediterranean. Steeped in history, over the centuries Altea has welcomed (or been conquered by) Iberians, Romans, Moors and Christians, all of whom have contributed to the special culture of these coastal lands. International tourism has affected most of Southern Spain, and the town has expanded along the coast, but unlike some resorts Altea has managed to maintain its historical charm, whilst providing an abundance of shops, restaurants and attractions to suit most people.

The old town of Altea is one of the most beautiful on the Costa Blanca. Pretty, white washed houses line the medieval streets leading up to the magnificent, centuries old, blue domed church of La Virgen de la Consuela. Stylish shops and boutiques line the narrow streets interspersed with restaurants & bars to suit every taste & pocket, or just relax & enjoy the views, over a glass of wine or coffee at any one of the cafes in the church square. The seafront restaurants are ever popular all offering excellent value for money & varied menus. Altea also boasts a concert hall, hosting musical events. The local train 'the lemon express' will take you to Alicante in the south, and Denia in the north. Every beach in between has views which are superb. The local attractions are Terra Mitca (Theme park, Aqualandia (Waterworld), Mundamar (Sea world). These are located within a 20 minute drive from Altea. There is a different market every day of the week and at weekends there is the popular El Cisne market with live jazz and good food.

Altea is a sunny haven and has always attracted many bohemians. Artists, painters, sculptors and writers of many nationalities have been drawn to the town, making their home here and benefiting from the inspiration they receive from its unique setting. They in turn, have contributed to its rich cultural life, and the official title, ‘Cultural Capital of the Valencia Region’, has been bestowed on Altea. The University of Culture and Fine Arts is adjacent to the old town, and now attracts a whole new generation of artists. The University has a Theatre of Performing Arts, where distinguished ensembles appear regularly. Details of forthcoming events are available from the University. In support of its mantle as Cultural Capital, Altea is also a town with a special taste for antiques and hand-crafted goods.

How to get there

Fly to Alicante airport.
Cheap flight available from all major UK airports - Easyjet, Fly Monarch etc.
Car hire available from airline/airport. Excellent access via the A7 North.
Taxi service also available from the airport - approx 70 euros to Altea.
Development is approximately 5-10 mins from AlteaTown - follow signs for Altea La Vieja (Vella) then the sign for Terrazas de Altea, right turn after petrol station on the left.
