The Costa Daurada covers the seaside area whose centre is the city of Tarragona, home to an exceptional archaeological and monumental heritage (a UNESCO World Heritage Listing). The area also has long sandy beaches, enjoys a mild climate and has many important tourist towns, marinas and fishing ports (Torredembarra, Salou, Cambrils). Its inland area offers visitors many cultural activities and monuments (Reus, Montblanc, Valls), the amazing Cistercian monasteries of Poblet, Santes Creus and Vallbona, and mountainous areas like Muntanyes de Prades and Montsant. Prestigious cuisine and D.O. wines from Priorat, Tarragona, Conca de Barberà and Montsant.
To be a tourist in Costa Daurada is a true pleasure whether you want enjoy the sun, play golf or just relax. Sunny region, with a fantastic climate, we go to the beach from April to November. It is perfect to relax in and visit the Roman ruins of Tarragona or the beautiful city of Barcelona, at only an hour by train.
If you bring your own car or rent one, you will have the opportunity to visit the Monasteries of Santes Creus, Poblet and Vallbona, the fortified walls of medieval Montblanc, or Prades high up in the heart of the Priorat wine area. All within an easy drive.
Altafulla area
Altafulla and Torredembarra both have a magnificent castle and long sandy beaches. Torredembarra's castle was built in 1560 by Lluís d'Icard, the lord of the town, and has been restored to house the town council. Torredembarra has a marina and is famous for its many restaurants, notably those of the harbour district. Nearby are two surviving stretches of coastal marshland -Els Salats and Els Muntanyans- which have been turned into a natural reserve/ protected wildlife area, thanks to the efforts of local environmental groups.
Altafulla, at only 3 kms. south of Torredembarra, is a small but lively coastal town. In the village, there are various information points for tourists (the nearest one to the penthouse is 200 metres, next to the local police station and the Post Office. It is here where you can obtain all the information you need to visit this area of the Costa Daurada (Roman ruins of Tarragona, Modernism art in Reus, aquatic parks, theme parks , Delta of the river Ebre, ...) or venture further afield....
Locally, you also have the possibility of practising water sports at the beach (sailing, water bike, canoes, fishing, water-skiing, ...). In summer a variety of activities are organised by the town hall for children. Altafulla has its own summer Proms.
Local holidays for Torredembarra are: 23-24 June, 13-14-15-16 July, 1-2-3-4 September. Els Castellers de Torrembarra (human towers) are held on these dates. For those who want to enjoy the night life, Torredembarra offers a desigated area just 10 minutes from the yatching port where you can find discos, musical pubs, restaurants...
"Castells" or human towers, are the Costa Daurada's most characteristic tradition. The beauty of the spectacle -a highly popular blend of folklore and sport- and the courage and solidarity of the participants (castellers) arouse the enthusiasm of their many loyal fans and the admiration of visitors. The teams (colles), composed of men and youngsters (boys and girls), build "castells" of various heights and structures to the musical accompaniment of rustic instruments. They give displays at festivals and compete to form the best, tallest and most hazardous pillars, towers and castles. Nowadays "castells" can reach a whopping height of ten storeys.

BY CAR: approximately 80 km south from Barcelona through motorway AP7, exit 32, at 4kms from the penthouse. BY TRAIN (AVE): by High Speed Train from Barcelona to Camp de Tarragona in 36 min. Camp de Tarragona is 15 km from the penthouse. BY TRAIN (RENFE Media Distancia) by regional train from Barcelona to Altafulla Station (1 hour), Tarragona to Altafulla Station (10 minutes). Railway station is only 700 ms from the penthouse. From Camp de Tarragona you can travel directly by HST to Barcelona, Lleida, Zaragoza, Madrid, Sevilla, etc.. The fully-equipped bathroom is located on the ground floor (bath tub/ shower, single washbasin, toilet and bidet) and has a small fan. Is is the only room without an exterior view/ window. The top floor has a large showerroom with single washbasin and toilet.
Further details outdoors: This apartment has a small wall garden in the solarium with various shrubs and climbers (jasmine, roses, lilies, clematis, passion flowers and daisies) flowering all summer. Automatic watering system.
The outdoor unheated swimming pool has a specially designated area for children. Please note there is no lifeguard on duty, so children must be supervised at all times. The area around the pool has a lawn, and is adequate for sunbathing. Topless or bathing in the nude is not permitted.

Conditions
Note for wheelchair users: This property is accessible for wheelchair users (no steps to climb, lift to property). There is a ramp to access the swimming pool area. The bathroom is not adapted for wheelchairs. Access to the top floor, hence the terrace/ solarium is not accessible with the wheelchair.
Pets are welcome. A supplement of 50 euros per booking will be charged for two or more pets (not for one) and charged at the time of arrival.

Joan J A Kim from Korea wrote: We had great, great time ... at Altafulla from 30th June to 5th July 2008. I was very much impressed by the kid's sand kit and bathing towels. My daughters happily used them at the beach. And thank you for the wines, fruits and the other foods and drinks. Most of all, the interior and condition of the house was perfect. The location of the house in Altafulla was proper for us to drive to come and go to Barcelona and Tarragona. We drove to Valencia and even to Andorra through Montserrat, although it took some time to get there, but it was worth to visit. I will fully recommend Raffles Penthouse to anyone who is interested in visiting Catalunia, Spain.
