On the farm we have lambing in the Spring, followed by cows calving, then there's sheep shearing, haymaking and silaging. Along with their parents children are welcome to help bottle feed young lambs, help feed and water the expectant mothers and collect eggs for breakfast in the morning if the hens are laying. Certain times of the year are busier than others on the farm so what there is to see can vary, please feel free to enquire when booking your holiday.

Electricity for cooking, lighting, hot water and any additional heating (if required) is by a £1 pre-payment meter (please note the meter is not set to make a profit). The Peak District National Park region
Come and take in the breathtaking landscape of the Peak District. You can take a spectacular walk over some of the 500 sq. miles of countryside and National Park, enjoy the rich cultural history of the area in the wonderful Chatsworth House (where Pride and Prejudice was filmed) and the wealth of other stately homes. There are also bustling, bright towns, cosy country pubs and great shopping all around. It is a trip that will be truly magical and compelling with so much to do in this glorious area of the English countryside.
Alstonefield has won the best village award many times in the past. It is a stunning village with a close knit community who are always friendly and willing to help. Alstonefield is actually built on a limestone plateau, which is 900 feet above sea level, making for lovely views. There is a popular old coaching inn just in front of the old wool market, and shops that used to thrive on the silk industry, making silk buttons! It is a wonderful village, with craft shops and galleries to potter about in as well as being the link to the wonderful countryside all around.

"We had a wonderful time away together at these cottages in Alstonefield"
We rented the two cottages for a week over New Year...
We had a couple of good days of weather the rest were WET! however the cottages remained warm and dry. The thought of a £1 coin meter for extra electricity was concerning in the beginning but we actually used about £20 during a week - we were 12 people! (8 Adults / 4 young children, 5,5,2,1) everything worked well ... In a perfect world, one cottage had a dishwasher - the other a washing machine... could have done with them swapped around as we ate mainly in the cottage where there was no dishwasher... but all added to the community spirit!
Wifi was intermittent... Mobile phones poor signal....
Great Value for money!!!

"Great place, great weekend"
We went as a group of 11 and hired out both cottages at Gateham Grange. We thought the cottages were very reasonably priced, set in a great location, very clean, exceeded expectations … in summary we had a lovely stay there for the weekend. We'd definitely go back if we head out that way again.

I booked both cottages to share a birthday weekend with 7 friends. The scenery is breathtaking, the cottages clean, beautifully decorated, bags of character, I can't think of a bad thing to say! Mrs Flower did everything she could to make our stay enjoyable. I will always look back on that weekend with great affection, and these cottages only added to what was my 50th birthday celebration to make it truely special.
