Lantern House is a four storey holiday town house for let and is available all year round. It has been recently refurbished with the original structure and character dating from the 17th Century and it is located in the centre of the historic town of Alston, Cumbria in the heart of the North Pennines.

Lantern House sleeps up to 8 guests plus there is a guest bed and is ideal for mixed groups and families.

The substantial holiday home has four bedrooms, two bathrooms, kitchen/dining room, children's playroom, lounge, study and utility room. With two bedrooms and a bathroom on each of the second and third floors it is an ideal property for family holidays, two families meeting up or going on holiday together and larger parties of guests.

The property has been fitted out to high specification with a modern approach and a careful attention to detail. Families have been carefully considered with the inclusion of the playroom with a two seater leather sofa, bean bags and its own 42” plasma television and DVD player plus lots of books and more traditional games. There are stair gates to safeguard small children on the landings, a cot and two high chairs area available, steps for the bathroom and even coloured plastic cutlery, dishes and plates.

The ground floor lounge also has a 42” plasma television and DVD player as well as a CD player. The lounge has a three seater leather sofa with two reclining seats as well as a two seater leather sofa and bean bags.

The property has an energy efficient gas fired central heating system and large hot water cylinder ensuring there is always plenty of hot water. The property has been insulated to a very high standard and with the double glazed windows make the house warm and cosy. There is a feature electric fire which gives coal and log effects as well a low level of additional heat when required.

Each bedroom has a double fitted wardrobe with plenty of storage space, a suitcase rack, (to the double bedrooms), and plenty of clothes hangers including those for children's clothes.

The kitchen has a fast action halogen hob, electric oven with grille, extract canopy, microwave oven, a full sized dishwasher and two fridges one of which has a small freezer compartment.

The study has a BT hub which provides free and unlimited access to the internet so a laptop computer or i-Pad can connect to the World Wide Web by keying in the password on the hub.

Car parking is free and unreserved in the Market Place although finding a place is not usually a problem. The property, and location in the town centre, is not suitable for pets so we have a “no pets” policy.

The property is strictly non smoking in all rooms and being a town house it is not suitable for pets.

The Cumbria/Lake District

Alston is located in the heart of the Pennines near the Northumberland and Durham borders. It is set in an area of outsnading natural beauty close to the Roman Wall, The Lake District, Carlisle and Hexham.

Alston

There are plenty of things to do in Alston and on Alston Moor for couples, groups and families. The South Tynedale Railway is narrow gauge railway open most of the year and close to The Hub a local museum containing old vehicles and a host of artefacts from bygone times.

There are lots of scenic walks in and around Alston and a leaflet in the study gives some useful routes and information.

Five miles up the road there is Nenthead and a couple of miles further on there is the Killhope Wheel Mining Centre.
