About the home
This pretty bungalow has marble floors throughout and is light and airy. It is comprehensively equipped, including wireless broadband access if you bring a PC. Every effort is made to make guests feel relaxed and at home. It is also very child friendly, and we can provide a travel cot with linen, or bed sides for young children.

The secluded overflow pool is 10 x 5 m and has walk in steps. Next to the pool and barbecue the gazebo has a large circular table and terracotta lights which makes this particularly lovely in the evenings.
There are supermarkets and beaches close by but the villa is far enough away from the main roads not to hear traffic noise. This is an ideal location for a wonderful relaxing holiday.

The Kyrenia region
Kyrenia sits in the middle of a narrow coastal plain between the Bespamark mountains and the Mediterranean sea. The region has a reputation as one of the most beautiful holiday areas in the world, and yet it is completely unspoilt.
Whilst development has increased over the past few years the place retains a laid-back air with little crime and local people who enjoy a reputation for friendliness and hospitality - and they drive on the left! The highest section of the mountain range stretches about 15 miles to the east and west of Kyrenia. Further east is the Karpaz peninsular which has miles of almost empty beaches (some of which are used as nesting sites for turtles), and large areas of nature reserve.
North Cyprus enjoys a wonderful climate with long hot summers and short mild winters. Daytime winter temperature in January and February can still reach 20 centigrade (70 Fahrenheit). In the spring from late March to May the fields are green and full of wild flowers. Temperatures match the best English summers. During June, July and August temperatures average over 30 degrees (into the 90s) with seemingly endless days of sunshine whilst in September and October the temperature drops back to the 80s whilst the sea remains beautiful and warm.
Historic Sights.
Kyrenia harbour and castle:
The world-famous horse-shoe harbour with it's array of yachts and tourist pleasure boats is the focus of the town and is dominated by the walls of Kyrenia castle. The castle museum is fascinating and boasts the world's oldest shipwreck. There are numerous bars and restaurants in the town but it retains an air of calm and relaxation. We would be happy to arrange a boat trip,on a beautiful wooden Gulet, either during the day or the very popular evening 'curry cruise' .
St Hilarian castle:
The towers and ramparts which can be seen high above the town on the peaks of the mountains were built in Byzantine times (along with nearby Buffavento and Kantara castles) and further fortified by the Crusaders. It is reputedly the inspiration for Walt Disney's Snow White castle.
Bellapais:
Bellapais sits about 3 miles outside Kyrenia. The picturesque town is dominated by it's monastery and is a wonderful place to explore and then admire the spectacular views whilst enjoying lunch at one of the local restaurants.
Salamis and Famagusta:
Salamis is on the east coast and is about a 2 hour drive. It is a truly amazing ancient city with a spectacular theatre, massive gymnasium and extensive Roman baths. After your visit cross the road and have a swim at the lovely beach. A few miles south is the walled city of Famagusta where you can walk along the city ramparts and explore narrow streets.
Nicosia:
Definitely worth a trip to see the fine examples of Venetian,Gothic and Ottoman architecture. The Selimiye Mosque and Buyuk Han (Great Inn) are beautiful buildings that are surrounded with restaurants where you can sit outside and soak up the atmosphere. Take your passport with you and you can sample an even wider variety of shops by walking across the border at Ledra Palace into South Cyprus.
The Alsancak area
Pyghtle is on the outskirts of Alsancak village in walking distance of several very good restaurants, the nearest being Acmenya only 5 mins away. There are also plenty of supermarkets that stock the popular well known brands, including baby food, Iceland frozen food and of course excellent local food.
The beaches are just a few minutes drive away, our favourite is the small bay at Mare Monte, which is at present being run by the local council. There is a small charge for beaches near hotels, but frankly it is worth it to get a sunbed, brolly, facilities and most important of all a cleaner beach. Also available locally are a variety of water sports including scuba diving.
We are only 8 minutes drive from the fantastic new water-park which is a great day out and good value for money.
Alsancak is only a 15 min drive from Kyrenia (Girne) or around 35 mins from Nicosia (Lefkosa)
There is a guest book in the villa giving more details of beaches, restaurants, supermarkets, local attractions and even a guide to the TV channels!!

| Airport: | Ercan: 35 km |
Fly to Ercan:
All flights to Ercan touch down in Turkey, but you do not normally need to leave the aircraft.
We recommend the Turkish no-frills airline Pegasus ( www.flypeg.com ) flying from Stansted who are always highly competitive. Early and late season, you can get flights for as little £153.
You can also try Turkish Airlines (who fly from Heathrow, Stansted, Birmingham and Manchester). In our experience these flights are around £50 more.
Our recommended car hire will pick you up from the airport (from Ercan it's free) and take you back. The car will be waiting at the house.
or:
Fly to Larnaca (Southern Cyprus) - transfer time to villa is around 90 mins. These flights are direct and duration is around 90 minutes less, so travelling time via the south is about the same as to the north. Many airlines fly to Larnaca - BA, Cyprus Air, Monarch, Thomas Cook and now EasyJet as well. If you are flying midweek you can pay substantially less.
Our recommended car hire will pick you up from the airport at a rate of around £50 each way and take you back. Your car will be waiting at the house.
We strongly recommend that you hire a car in order to make the most of your holiday.
We are happy to advise on your travel arrangements. Do not hesitate to contact us!

We were staying at the villa at the end of Oct 2012, when we still got the warm late summer weather. So we could enjoy the large pool and outdoor areas with bbq etc... The villa itsself was spotless clean, perfectly equiped and only minutes from shops, restaurants and the sea, though I recommend to have a rental car, which makes everything easier and is very cheap anyway. I must also say, that we would recommend everyone to come to Nothern instead of Southern Cyprus, as the Turkish are one of the friendliest and helpful people on this planet, the food is excellent and so far not everything is so intensively geared towards tourists as in the South, however it may be different in high season. Overall we enjoyed our stay a lot, may come back another year and can definately recommend the villa to everyone. |

Upon arrival we found the villa to be clean, nicely decorated and ready for us to move in. The villa and it's contents were at least what we expected or better. Overall we have no complaints to speak of and we would not hesitate to return for another visit or to reccomend to others. I would like to make a few critical comments and I hope that they will be taken in the spirit they are meant. None of the following had any substantial negative effect on our holiday but improvements to these issues would make our stay even better than it was. The living room would most certainly be made more comfortable with the addition of air conditioning and, perhaps more comfortable sofas. Updating the internet connection to actual wifi, as opposed to an outdated 3G modem dongle would have been welcome. I see no need for a bath in the en-suite and would have preferred a wet room. This would have made room for the addition of a bidet, which is something we have at home and we all sorely miss whenever we go on holiday. This would also be helpful in the regard of tissue paper use. Firstly it would be unecessary, secondly it would negate the need for a bin full of soiled tiisues which, lets be honest, is not a very pleasant thing to encounter. All that aside, the pool was perfect, the BBQ was perfect, the gazeebo was perfect, the kitchen was perfect, the accomodation for four of us was perfect. Will return. Response: Thank you for your comments we value an honest opinion. Wifi is a fairly new concept in Cyprus and we have only had the 3G dongle for 2 years. Up until this year this has been sufficient for guests who only seemed to want to check e-mails while on holiday. However, we will be updating to full wifi so that visitors can use their phones, ipads etc. Of course this will cost us a lot more each year, but we want to keep our guests happy. Couples with young children, and some adults prefer to use the bath so would be disappointed to find a property without one. There is no need for a separate bidet as the toilets are Turkish and have a spout for water fitted in the back which is easy to turn on as you sit. Fitting air-con in the lounge is a difficult one. We have considered it before, but it would spoil the look of the outside terrace where you spend more time in the summer, and there is a large ceiling fan in the lounge. We are so pleased that you found everything else to be "perfect". |

This was our second holiday toThe Pyghtle, having also stayed here in July 2011. Everything was just as good as we remembered, if not better, especially as the road outside has now been finished!! The temperatures this year were really high (over 40 degrees) and the fantastic crystal clear pool & numerous shaded areas were such a godsend. Come the evenings, still with the temperature pushing 30 degrees, we found the best thing to do was head for a beachside bar/restaurant to enjoy cooling sea breeze. We found all of these offering fantastic value for money, with our favourite being 'Silver Rocks'. The Pyghtle offers everything from a very quiet location yet only minutes away from numerous supermarkets/bars and the beach. We cannot recommend the Villa highly enough, especially when you start looking more closely at the costs involved........The Pyghtle is a quality Villa and when you compare the total expense of the holiday to similar properties etc in the likes of Spain; Malta; etc it is so much cheaper here in Northern Cyprus. We are already planning our return visit!! |
