Home description

Welcome to our home in Northern Cyprus. Villa Mamas is situated in a quiet peaceful location on the outskirts of Alsancak just 10 kilometres (15 min. drive) from the centre of the ancient port town of Kyrenia. This large airy bungalow is surrounded by orange/lemon groves together with olive trees. It has uninterrupted views of the Besparmak Mountains, and spectacular views of the Mediterranean Sea from the upper sun terraces all of which can be enjoyed when dining al-fresco. The villa benefits from its own large swimming pool which is surrounded by mature gardens. The pool has a Roman End with steps leading into the shallow end which is ideal for families with young children and non-swimmers. Everything has been provided to ensure a comfortable and relaxing stay including Satellite TV, Air Conditioning for the hot summer months and Central Heating if needed for the cooler winter months.

The Kyrenia District

The horseshoe shaped harbour is the focal point of the town, with its colourful fishing boats and yachts and lively tavernas serving both locals and tourists. The town retains its original character with many small restaurants and bars surrounding the typical Mediterranean harbour. The area provides mountain and sea views. Amongst the many historic sites worth visiting are Kyrenia Castle, Shipwreck Museum, St Hilarion Castle believed to have been the inspiration for Walt Disney's Sleeping Beauty Castle and the Village and Abbey at Bellapais immortalised in Laurence Durrell's book "Bitter Lemons". A copy of which is kept at the Villa for guests to read should they wish.

Alsancak area

The villa is on the edge of the village of Alsancak (Karavas) which is a small village off the coastal road from Kyrenia (Girne) to Guzelyurt (Morfou). The centre of the village is one mile away. Several good restaurants are within walking distance of the villa and more can be found in the village itself. Two very popular restaurants are located in Alsancak, namely Acmenya, which is within walking distance of the villa and has live entertainment on Saturday evenings and Cenap, a popular meze restaurant which produces two dozen small dishes of food for a fixed price There are many beautiful beaches. The nearest is one mile away. An excellent tourist beach is Escape(3 km) where Scuba Diving, Jet Skis and Banana Rides can be found. The highest point of the Besparmak mountain range (3,400 ft) is only 3 miles from the villa. Jeeps/quad bikes can be hired for off road exploring. You will find maps detailing several walks that can be taken from the villa varying in distance/difficulty.

How to get there

Flights are available from most major UK Airports. The most popular route is to Ercan Airport actually in Northern Cyprus. The flight takes approximately 6 hours, this includes a stop at Istanbul, Turkey. This Villa is 40 mins. drive from Ercan Airport. We can arrange transfers for you; the cost is approximately £25 each way. Car hire can be arranged to meet you at the airport on arrival. British Airways have direct flights to Larnaca, but the transfer time is longer, approximately 1 hour 30 mins. Transfer £50 each way. For more information please contact the owners.

The Villa has four bedrooms The double bedroom has an en suite shower room and fitted wardrobes. It has a patio door that leads to the breakfast terrace overlooking olive trees and mature gardens. There is a king-size bedroom which has views of the pool and mountains. The two twin-bedded rooms both have patio windows which lead to the pool and have views of the mountains and gardens. The kitchen is large and equipped with all modern facilities. The lounge/dining area is extremely spacious and comfortable . It is semi-circular in shape and views of the mountains, pool and gardens can be enjoyed on all sides. Satellite TV has been provided specifically with English sport, news and film channels together with a DVD. Hand and bath towels are provided. We ask that guests provide there own beach/pool towels. The owners of Villa Mamas are non-smokers and whilst we do not object to people smoking outside we would respectfully request that guests do not smoke in the villa itself.

The Villa is approached through wrought iron gates and is surrounded by mature gardens. There is ample parking space for 2/3 cars. The pool is large and Roman ended with steps into the shallow end. There are three terraces. A brick BBQ can be found on the upper terrace. Sun loungers, parasols, al-fresco dining tables and chairs are all provided.
