The Costa Brava/Catalonia/Barcelona region
Alpens is a small village located in Central Catalonia, in the north of Osona (Barcelona) that limits with the Berguedà on the north and Ripollès (Girona) on the East.
The village is located in the Catalan prePyrenean to 855 meters above the sea. It is located 100 km north of the city of Barcelona and about 110 to 130 km of the Costa Brava.
You must visit the city of Barcelona, it's just over an hour's drive. We also recommended to visit to some of the main towns of the Costa Brava as Blanes, Lloret, Platja d'Aro which are about an hour and a half.
As mountains we recommend a visit to the sanctuary of Nuria and the ascent to Puigmal (2909 meters over the sea).
Alpens is a quiet and very pretty village where it is a pleasure to walk and contemplate the works of artistic forging decorating all the village. Although Alpens belongs to the Osona, geographic and scenically has much more resemblance to the regions bordering Ripollés and Berguedá, as it is located in a mountainous area.
One of the most important activities is to go swimming Riera de Merles, a small river that flows 7 km from the town. Jumping from some of its waterfalls is one of the best activities to do in summer. In winter it is also a very nice place to visit even if we can not swim instead.
Hiking is undoubtedly one of the best activities. The GR-1 passes just in front of the house and allows to discover lush forests, mountains and hermitages like Santa Margarida.
Its location halfway between Ripoll, Vic and Berga is advisable to visit any of these 3 historic cities. Nearest big city is Vic (50,000 inhabitants), which is about 33 km.
