The Austrian Alps / Salzburgerland / Salzburgerland region
St Johann im Pongau / Alpendorf, located only 60kms south of Salzburg, is one of Austria’s most accessible ski resorts. The resort has the additional advantages of encompassing pistes suitable for all levels, and a link to the mammoth ski area of Amade, presenting over 860kms of slopes.
Situated on a sunny plateau next to the river Sazach, St Johann is a traditional, authentic Austrian town, with a lively atmosphere. It offers a full range of shops, restaurants and visitor facilities, and is known for its magnificent cathedral and the nearby natural wonder of the Liechtenstein Gorge.
St Johann im Pongau / Alpendorf comprises almost 100kms of groomed pistes, with a longest run of five kilometres. Of these, 42 per cent is devoted to beginners, 46 per cent to intermediates, and 12 per cent to advanced/expert skiers. A system of 59 lifts serves the slopes, with the ability to shuttle up to 56,000 skiers per hour.
The winter season in St Johann im Pongau / Alpendorf runs from December to April, with summer skiing on Kitzsteinhorn. Best rates are available before the Christmas holidays and in March.
Alpendorf area
Alpendorf not only offers a great choice of sports facilities but also supervised entertainment and activity programs for kids. In winter Alpendorf serves as gateway to the Salzburger Sportwelt, a superb skiing area amid famous Ski amadé boasting over 870 impeccable slopes and 270 top modern ski lifts.
In the summer a cable car takes you up to Gernkogel (1787m) where a wonderful hiking area awaits you. Not far from the mountain bike world at Wagrain, and the outdoor cetre at Flacau.

Alpendorf is approx 40mins drive south of Salzburg.
There are several budget airlines operating to Salzburg these include Ryanair, Thompson, Jet 2, monarch, British Airways.
A taxi is approx 100euros. a train runs to nearby St johann in Pongau (2kms away)
