The Rhône-Alpes region

'Rhone Alps is a region full of contrasts, boarded with the Alps in the east and the Massif Central in the West. This Region has a huge diversity of landscapes, natural parks and climates. With a surface of 44 000 km2, Rhône-Alps stretches over 200 km from the north to the south and about180 km from West to East. The two main characteristics of Rhone Alps are water and mountain. The mountains are just part of the region: more than half the territory is situated at an altitude of more than 500m. In Rhone-Alps, culture is a second nature.

About 200 museums, 300 libraries, and some…500 cinemas, constitute a rich and varied range of facilities to make the very most of a very deep culture and identity of the Rhone Alps region. '

L'Alpe-d'Huez

Summer:

'Alpe d’Huez has developed at an altitude of 6,100 ft on the Grandes Rousses Massif. Pic Blanc, the highest point of this massif at 10,922 ft, has a panoramic view awarded three stars in the Michelin Guide. Alpe d’Huez is one of the best departure points for many excursions on the west and south faces of the Grandes Rousses, where you can walk or take your mountain bike to discover the 12 lakes of the massif.' Rock climbing, horse riding, mountain biking and fishing are just some of the many activities avaiable to you during the summer season.

Local climbs include Col de la Croix de Fer, Col du Galibier, and Col du Glandon to name a few. At the Chalet we have details of all the local climbs, a bike wash area, secure bike shed and all the tools you may need! If you fancy taking part in the famous, ’La Marmotte’ race or would like to enjoy the Alpe d’Huez stage of the Tour De France, then Chalet Ribot is perfect for you!

For those looking for a little more danger, Alpe d’Huez and the neighbouring resort of Les 2 Alpes offer all levels of mountain biking tracks. The Mountain of Hell and Mega Avalanche downhill mountain biking races are hosted by both Alpe d’Huez and Les 2 Alpes.

Open from April through to October, Chalet Ribot is the ideal location for holiday makers wishing to enjoy the many activities in the local area of Alpe d 'huez. From climbing to rafting, horse riding to swimming, there is something for everyone! For those wishing to just lie back and relax, why not enjoy our south facing garden with a glass of wine and a good book!

Winter:

Alpe d’Huez (1,860m) offers a lovely ski environment. The south facing slopes catch the sun with 220km of pistes. Beginners can enjoy the well-equipped lower slopes, while more experienced skiers can try out a steep run and slopes as high as they could possibly wish for. The resort also has the longest black run in Europe: the famous Sarenne (magnificent!) with a 2200 meter descent. The massif offers an enchanting panoramic view with a lot of sun thanks to its placement. Resort life is very active and offers many activities such as ice skating, swimming, an indoor climbing wall, night time skiing and night time seldging.

"Very friendly very comfortable"

Dan and Susan are the warmest of hosts...my wife daughter and I had an amazing stay - lovely food/chat/drinks and skiing (of course)

If you're looking for the personal friendly touch - I doubt you can find better in the resort. Dan even went out early one morning to find snow chains for my hire car.

Accommodation was very comfortable - views were amazing...

Great service super people - we look forward to going back again...

"A wonderful place to wake up in the morning."

We've stayed at this chalet more than once, before we were married, after we were married, and a third time with our new daughter. Each and every time we've experienced such a warm welcome from the owners Daniel & Susan , and not forgetting the dog "Tiny" ( which as his name suggests, is something of a mild understatement ) Its really hard to fault this place, and we've travelled all over the world, and its very rare we visit the same place twice, but for a short break away from the rat race, we think we have found such a lovely little chalet in the mountains, which has originally made me think twice about rating this place on trip advisor in case it gets too busy!! But in any case, to sum this place up, amazing views, even better food, and its the wonderful couple who run this Chalet that gives it the edge on any other in this part of the world. If you do get to stay at this Chalet, say hi to the dog for me .. :-)
