Home description

The Cabana is ideally suited to accommodate 2 persons, but can sleep 4. The living room opens onto a paved patio with table, chairs and barbecue, the bedroom has french windows onto a balcony which joins the patio. The bedroom is air conditioned, hot water is supplied by solar energy. In the kitchen there is a gas cooker with 3 rings, grill and oven, a stainless steel sink with drainer and a fridge with freezer compartment. All utensils, pans and cutlery are provided. Bed linen, towels and tea towels are provided and changed weekly. There are facilities for washing and ironing clothes. Car parking is provided.

The Costa del Sol/Malaga region

Finca la Piedra is an olive grov e, situated 6km North West of Alora over looking the Guadalhorce Valley. We have two Cabanas which are located in an elevated position (alt. 340m) and have spectacular views of the Sierra de Aguas and Los Gaitanes National Park. This is the area where the Guadalhorce River cuts deeply into the bedrock massif to form the El Chorro Gorge. The Gorge and the surrounding rock walls provide some of the best rock climbing in Europe. The Sierras and Natural Park areas are ideal for long and short walking days on good tracks or wild footpaths, good maps are available. For the more adventurous walkers and skiers the Sierra Nevada mountains and mainland Spain's highest peak Mulhacen (3482m) is only two hours drive away. Overnight accommodation can be arranged, and accompanied ski trips can be organised. Good snow conditions occur from early December to late April.

Alora area

The nearest town Alora is typically Andalucian with a mix of old white painted houses and new apartments fronting onto steep narrow streets, built on three hills, the highest of which has the remains of a Moorish Castle. There are many shops and a Monday Street Market in the lower square. From Alora station there is a regular service to Malaga on the coast and inland to Cordoba, and on to Madrid. From Malaga, trains run down the coast to the airport, to Torremolinos and finally Fuengirola. We recommend you hire a car but if you intend to stay mostly on the Finca and enjoy the scenery, watching the many different species of birds and walk to the local bar etc, then we will be happy to drive you to the supermarket 4k away to get your supplies. Should you hire a car then there are, within a short driving distance, lots of beautiful and interesting locations to explore.

How to get there

Fly to Malaga airport, car hire or we can collect. There is a convenient train service to Alora, we can collect from there.

The Cabana comprises an entrance hall, a living room with a kitchen and dining area, a bedroom with two single beds and a bathroom and bath/shower, washbasin and WC.

In Autumn/winter/spring the climate is more suitable for the following acitivities -
Bird Watching, Rock Climbing, Guided mountain walking and mountain biking, all abilities catered for. Escorted trail riding on our own horses (some riding experience needed).
On the 1 December the ski slopes in the Sierra Nevada open and skiing days can be arranged, either accompanied or unaccompanied.
From May through to October we have a small pool with a bar and barbecue area for the use of guests.
