The Northern England / Yorkshire / Northumberland region
Northumbria is a pleasant combination of fishing villages, market towns, sandy beaches, magnificent castles and historic Hadrian’s Wall, tied together by beautiful countryside and abundant wildlife. Covering 400 square miles, the Northumberland National Park is the least populated of England’s National Parks, much to the benefit of those visitors seeking peace and solitude. Thousands of paths and tracks weave their way through beautiful countryside, providing exhilarating fresh air and wide-open spaces for walkers and cyclists alike.
Northumbria encompasses County Durham, the Tees Valley and Tyne and Wear, as well as covering the North Pennines ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’, the World Heritage Site of Hadrian’s Wall, the City of Durham and the Heritage Coastline, boasting a selection of protected golden beaches and tiny fishing villages. Northumberland’s Heritage Coast has mile upon mile of sparkling beaches, rocky coves and picturesque fishing villages. Sweeping from Berwick-upon-Tweed in the north, to Druridge Bay in the south, popular destinations along the coastline include the horseshoe-shaped sandy beach and dunes at Beadnell Bay, the bustling village of Seahouses, with boat trips from the picturesque harbour, and the kipper smokery and coastal path at Craster. Adding to the area’s splendour is a chain of magnificent castles: Alnwick, home to the powerful Percy family and the setting for some of the Harry Potter films; spectacular, medieval Bamburgh, standing high on its rocky outcrop; the brooding ruins of Dunstanburgh and pretty Warkworth.
Alnwick / Alnmouth area
The village of Alnmouth can trace its history back 4,000 years to its beginnings as a Bronze Age settlement. The thriving community of today offers a warm welcome to visitors and amongst the many local attractions there are seemingly endless sandy beaches, a superb links golf course, fine rivers for fishing and a wide range of shops, restaurants, pubs and cafes. Alnmouth is about a ten minute walk from the property.
The busy market town of Alnwick is four miles from the property. Its magnificent medieval castle is well worth a visit and has been used as a set location for films including Harry Potter. Alnwick Castle is complemented by beautiful landscaped gardens, a shop, restaurant and cafe, created by the Duchess of Northumberland and first opened to the public in 2002.
The nearest pub to the property is the Coach Inn in Lesbury. It is a small family pub just over a five minute walk away. Alnmouth can be reached on foot within ten minutes and the centre of Alnwick can by reached by bus within fifteen minutes. There is a bus stop on South View only thirty seconds walk from the house. Here you can catch regular buses to Newcastle, Walkworth, Amble and Alnwick

Guestbook for South View
"We had an extremely enjoyable visit to Southview August Bank Holiday 2009, beforehand we found the owner to be more than helpful with our booking, pets are allowed and our dog thoroughly enjoyed exiting the patio doors into the enclosed garden. The property is very comfortable equipped with modern appliances (our 13yr old daughter thought the big fridge with automatic ice dispenser was cool!). The property is ideally located for visiting the Northumbrian Coast and with good train and bus facilities accommodates those without transport. A fantastic time was had by all and we hope to visit again, no hesitation in recommending Southview to others"
-Colin and Carole Wellsted, Aug 2009
