The Northern England / Yorkshire / Northumberland region

Low Newton is about 30 miles from Newcastle Upon Tyne where there are a variety of museums, theatres and cinemas. The Metro Centre, one of the largest shopping malls in Europe is just a little further on.
To the west is Hadrian's Wall and Keilder water and to the north are the Cheviot Hills with spectacular scenery and superb walking and cycling.

Alnwick / Embleton area

The cottage is very close to the medieval market town of Alnwick with it's famous Garden and Castle, home to The Duke of Northumberland. To the north is the fishing town of Seahouses with it's trips to the Farne Islands and a few miles further on is the beautiful village of Bamburgh with The Grace Darling Museum and it's own famous castle owned by the Armstrong family. Lindisfarne or Holy island is about a 40 minute drive, tides permitting. The imposing ruin of Dunstanburgh Castle is an easy walk along the beach to the south of the cottage with Craster, famous for it's kippers a couple of miles further on. Nice to walk to for lunch. Embleton Golf course is a short walk away.
