Home description
This charming mid-terrace house in the pretty village of North Charlton dates back as far as the nineteenth century. Modernised to a high standard and incorporating a spacious living-room with dining area and wood-burning stove – set into a fantastic inglenook feature fireplace – this cottage also boasts a stylish fitted kitchen which combines aspects of modern design with old-world charm.
The house is well decorated and comes with a TV, video and DVD player in case a relaxing evening in front of the fire is required after a hard day exploring the various beaches of the region. With sleeping room for up to four people, this fantastic property is well situated on the A1 for trips to Alnwick, the Holy Island of Lindisfarne and the Scottish Borders.
The Northern England / Yorkshire / Northumberland region
Northumbria is a heady combination of fishing villages, market towns, sandy beaches, magnificent castles and historic Hadrian’s Wall, tied together by beautiful countryside and abundant wildlife. Covering 400 square miles, the Northumberland National Park is the least populated of England’s National Parks, much to the benefit of those visitors seeking peace and solitude. Thousands of paths and tracks weave their way through beautiful countryside, providing exhilarating fresh air and wide-open spaces for walkers and cyclists alike.
Stay a while, roam the countryside but don’t forget to explore further, because the area known as Northumbria offers much more than just the National Park. Northumbria encompasses County Durham, the Tees Valley and Tyne and Wear, as well as covering the North Pennines ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’, the World Heritage Site of Hadrian’s Wall, the City of Durham and the Heritage Coastline, boasting a selection of protected golden beaches and tiny fishing villages. Northumberland’s Heritage Coast has mile upon mile of sparkling beaches, rocky coves and picturesque fishing villages. Sweeping from Berwick-upon-Tweed in the north, to Druridge Bay in the south, popular destinations along the coastline include the horseshoe-shaped sandy beach and dunes at Beadnell Bay, the bustling village of Seahouses, with boat trips from the picturesque harbour, and the kipper smokery and coastal path at Craster.
Adding to the area’s splendour is a chain of magnificent castles: Alnwick, home to the powerful Percy family and the setting for some of the Harry Potter films; spectacular, medieval Bamburgh, standing high on its rocky outcrop; the brooding ruins of Dunstanburgh and pretty Warkworth.
Alnwick / Chathill area
The A1 is very close by, making the village easily accessible from anywhere in the country and with the extensive sandy beaches at Beadnell Bay and Low Newton just minutes away, this little village is a great place for a seaside holiday. The market town of Alnwick, with its imposingly beautiful castle, is only ten minutes down the road, and boasts a wide variety of amenities. The Cheviot foothills are also only a short drive away and with a National Park nearby and plenty of challenging golf courses there is a wide variety of great places to explore throughout the Northumberland region.
