Home description
Parts of the house date back to the 17th century – it was then a summer bathing house. Summer House has been lovingly rebuilt and modernized, and now offers splendid holiday accommodation in one of the most scenic locations in Craster. The cottage has three bedrooms; a spacious open plan living area with pretty harbour and sea views; a superb granite fitted kitchen, and a pleasant dining area. A cosy retreat for holidaymakers at any time of year.
The Northern England / Yorkshire / Northumberland region
Northumbria is a heady combination of fishing villages, market towns, sandy beaches, magnificent castles and historic Hadrian’s Wall, tied together by beautiful countryside and abundant wildlife. Covering 400 square miles, the Northumberland National Park is the least populated of England’s National Parks, much to the benefit of those visitors seeking peace and solitude. Thousands of paths and tracks weave their way through beautiful countryside, providing exhilarating fresh air and wide-open spaces for walkers and cyclists alike. Stay a while, roam the countryside but don’t forget to explore further, because the area known as Northumbria offers much more than just the National Park. Northumbria encompasses County Durham, the Tees Valley and Tyne and Wear, as well as covering the North Pennines ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’, the World Heritage Site of Hadrian’s Wall, the City of Durham and the Heritage Coastline, boasting a selection of protected golden beaches and tiny fishing villages. Northumberland’s Heritage Coast has mile upon mile of sparkling beaches, rocky coves and picturesque fishing villages. Sweeping from Berwick-upon-Tweed in the north, to Druridge Bay in the south, popular destinations along the coastline include the horseshoe-shaped sandy beach and dunes at Beadnell Bay, the bustling village of Seahouses, with boat trips from the picturesque harbour, and the kipper smokery and coastal path at Craster. Adding to the area’s splendour is a chain of magnificent castles: Alnwick, home to the powerful Percy family and the setting for some of the Harry Potter films; spectacular, medieval Bamburgh, standing high on its rocky outcrop; the brooding ruins of Dunstanburgh and pretty Warkworth.
Alnwick / Craster area
Craster was an important fishing harbour in the 17th century and is still famous for its oak cured kippers, produced for the finest breakfasts for over 150 years. This picturesque village appears to tumble into the sea, and offers a pub serving food, Robson's famous fish shop, a fish restaurant, and a great children's playground to keep the little ones amused. A selection of Northumberland's finest sandy beaches are within easy reach, and other visitor attractions include Howick Hall which was built in the 18th century and has associations with the Grey family, including Earl Grey. The gardens are open to the public during the spring and summer season, and are well known for their spectacular displays during rhododendron season. The coastal footpath provides stunning walking opportunities, including a northerly walk that takes you to the impressive ruins of the largest ruined castle in Northumberland - Dunstanburgh Castle.

We love everything about this cottage, especially the wonderful views from two aspects. We love it being open plan with plenty of space. The area is outstanding with so many beautiful beaches. Mrs Vinall, Macclesfield, Cheshire March 2009 ' ,Fantastic cottage in a fantastic area of Northumberland(Kippers to die for from the kipper factory) Mr Hart, Nr Reading, Berkshire November 2008 ' ,Second visit to Summerhouse so obviously like it a lot, it has a really 'home from home' atmosphere with lots of space to move around. Good to have parking for 2 cars. Love the views (we really hoped there would be a storm) and privacy, it really feels like it is detached. Craster is a great base for all that Northumberland has to offer and there is a lot to see and do. Mrs Davies, Louth, Lincolnshire November 2008 ' ,This was our 3rd visit to The Summer House in 10 months so we obviously like it a lot. Its location is incomparable, the property is well appointed and furnished to a h
