Home description
The compact accommodation features a double bedroom, a shower room, a first-floor kitchen with a dining area and an attractive sitting room. The Nook has been fitted and furnished to ensure that visitors have a most comfortable stay. It provides an ideal holiday retreat from which to explore this delightful part of Northumberland.
The Northern England / Yorkshire / Northumberland region
Northumbria is a heady combination of fishing villages, market towns, sandy beaches, magnificent castles and historic Hadrian’s Wall, tied together by beautiful countryside and abundant wildlife. Covering 400 square miles, the Northumberland National Park is the least populated of England’s National Parks, much to the benefit of those visitors seeking peace and solitude. Thousands of paths and tracks weave their way through beautiful countryside, providing exhilarating fresh air and wide-open spaces for walkers and cyclists alike. Stay a while, roam the countryside but don’t forget to explore further, because the area known as Northumbria offers much more than just the National Park. Northumbria encompasses County Durham, the Tees Valley and Tyne and Wear, as well as covering the North Pennines ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’, the World Heritage Site of Hadrian’s Wall, the City of Durham and the Heritage Coastline, boasting a selection of protected golden beaches and tiny fishing villages. Northumberland’s Heritage Coast has mile upon mile of sparkling beaches, rocky coves and picturesque fishing villages. Sweeping from Berwick-upon-Tweed in the north, to Druridge Bay in the south, popular destinations along the coastline include the horseshoe-shaped sandy beach and dunes at Beadnell Bay, the bustling village of Seahouses, with boat trips from the picturesque harbour, and the kipper smokery and coastal path at Craster. Adding to the area’s splendour is a chain of magnificent castles: Alnwick, home to the powerful Percy family and the setting for some of the Harry Potter films; spectacular, medieval Bamburgh, standing high on its rocky outcrop; the brooding ruins of Dunstanburgh and pretty Warkworth.
Alnwick / Embleton area
The attractive village of Embleton has a long history, including frequent invasions by the Scots during the Wars of the Roses. The village dates back to pre-medieval times, and its Norman church, the Church of the Holy Trinity, was built in the late 12th century. It also had a thriving whinstone quarry in the 19th century and a long whinstone ridge still provides welcome shelter from the driving east winds. The Heritage Trails Project has been set up in recent years to put the focus on the history of the parish and visitors can learns about the village and its environs on a fascinating variety of well-designed walks. These range from a short stroll to a six-mile trek, and suit all abilities. The area is renowned for excellent golf courses, and there are many other local attractions on offer. Chief among these is Dunstanburgh Castle, a dramatic and ancient ruin that looms over Embleton Bay. The magnificent Alnwick Castle and Garden, and the gardens of Howick Hall, are also nearby.

Guestbook for 623
Overall we really enjoyed the holiday and the cottage. It was nice to come back to a warm comfortable homely place. The location was ideal for touring the area and for local coastal walks. Mr Swain, Chesterfield, Derbyshire September 2008 ' ,Very central for all coastal attractions, good pubs and restaurants very near at hand. Mr Berry, Gillingham, Kent July 2008 ' ,Very pleasant area and very friendly people. Mr Marsden, Milnthorpe, Cumbria June 2008 ' ,The Nook is an excellent place for a romantic break. The owner was very friendly and helpful. It is situated in a very pretty village and is ideally placed for coastal walking. I have no hesitation is recommending it. Mrs Barklem, York, North Yorkshire February 2008 '
