Northern England region
Even with all the rich heritage and history that Northumberland has to offer it still somehow seems to shield itself from too much tourism, hence its preserved idyllic surroundings and peaceful, friendly and welcoming villages. There are a number of scenic locations to visit in and around Alnmouth, such as the market town of Alnwick and its extremely beautiful Alnwick Castle Gardens. For more adventurous historians out there, there is Bamburgh Castle as well as the ancient priory ruins and castle located in Lindisfarne. For visitors who come to Alnmouth simply seeking peace and quiet you there is no better setting than the picturesque stretch of immaculate sandy beach which offers a setting of unrivalled beauty and tranquility. You will often be the only people there throughout the year and even during the peak seasons of July and August Alnmouth somehow soaks up all the cyclists, surfers, walkers, sailors and fishermen who continue return to this place with its spellbinding charm.
Anybody who has ever used the east coast train between Edinburgh, Newcastle and London will surely not have missed the 50 mile stretch of magnificent coastline between Morpeth and Berwick. With its outstanding natural beauty Northumberland has served as a magical destination for people who enjoy holiday homes along its coast, all of which dates back to Victorian times. Renowned for its long stretches of fine sandy beaches, Northumberland has a number of beautiful 'post card' hot spots along its coastline, such as Embleton, Alnmouth, Bamburgh and Beadnell, with their huge sand dunes and elegant sweeping bays to invigorate the senses. Combine this with the picturesque untouched emerald green countryside and you have the makings of a magical country/ coastal walking holiday for people of all ages.
The small and traditional seaside village of Alnmouth is situated (as the name suggests) at the mouth of the River Aln, where it enters the sea just south of Alnwick in Northumberland. Famous for its row of colourful painted cottages which can bee seen from the road and rail links, Alnmouth contains several pubs, cafe, restaurants, gift shop, post office/newsagents and well-stocked deli-grocers shop. There is even an Indian restaurant based within the Schooner Inn.
On reaching the end of the main street you are immediately greeted with what is certainly one of the greatest views in Northumberland and possibly the UK. Golden beaches seem to surround the town on all sides, giving the impression of being on an island.
It is possible to walk along the sands and dunes for several miles north towards Boulmer and Craster or beyond. A more remote but very picturesque beach lies across the south side of the River Aln estuary. From here you can walk the 3-4 miles to Warkworth and on to Amble. This beach be accessed from a track a mile or so out of Alnmouth driving south on the coast road towards Warkworth.

"Fantastic house with all required gadgets but no garden, just patio area."
Very clean and spacious, lovely decor. Lack of garden was a disappointment as we had 3 children in our party. 2 sets of keys would have been useful. How about a pool table in the garage?… More
