The Northern England / Yorkshire / Northumberland region

The Northumberland coastline is a land far from the hustle and bustle of everyday life in a county brimming with places to see and things to do amongst the most spectacular of landscapes.

Explore mile upon mile of gloriously uncrowded golden sandy beaches and stunning countryside set amongst two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the rugged Northumberland National Park. Discover more castles than anywhere else in England, the birthplace of English Christianity on the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, the historic World Heritage Site of Hadrian's Wall, stunning Alnwick Garden picturesque towns and villages and much more.

There are plenty of golf courses and lots of activities and some great walking.

Alnwick / Lesbury area

Close (15 minutes drive) is the historic town of Alnwick with its castle well known to Harry Potter fans, and the creative Alnwick Gardens with cascading fountains and Tree House. The town also hosts international festivals of dance and music, has good food from delicious fish ‘n’ chips to classy restaurants. Attractions include galleries, a pottery, the House of Hardy fishing museum, Alnwick Playhouse and the famous Barter Books situated in the old railway station.

Northumberland is blessed with a wealth of natural attractions – a wonderful mix of rolling hills, rugged moorlands, gentle valleys, rivers, and glorious Heritage Coastline. Activities include horse riding, climbing, walking, fishing, boat trips, visits to the many other historic castles, including Chillingham, stately homes and gardens.

Also recommended is a visit to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, the wild cattle of Chillingham and fishing ports of Seahouses and Amble. There is so much to do and see, it makes the location an ideal base for a relaxing, enjoyable holiday.
