The Northern England / Northumberland region
Northumbria is a heady combination of fishing villages, market towns, sandy beaches, magnificent castles and historic Hadrian’s Wall, tied together by beautiful countryside and abundant wildlife. Covering 400 square miles, the Northumberland National Park is the least populated of England’s National Parks, much to the benefit of those visitors seeking peace and solitude. Thousands of paths and tracks weave their way through beautiful countryside, providing exhilarating fresh air and wide-open spaces for walkers and cyclists alike. Stay a while, roam the countryside but don’t forget to explore further, because the area known as Northumbria offers much more than just the National Park. Northumbria encompasses County Durham, the Tees Valley and Tyne and Wear, as well as covering the North Pennines ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’, the World Heritage Site of Hadrian’s Wall, the City of Durham and the Heritage Coastline, boasting a selection of protected golden beaches and tiny fishing villages. Northumberland’s Heritage Coast has mile upon mile of sparkling beaches, rocky coves and picturesque fishing villages. Sweeping from Berwick-upon-Tweed in the north, to Druridge Bay in the south, popular destinations along the coastline include the horseshoe-shaped sandy beach and dunes at Beadnell Bay, the bustling village of Seahouses, with boat trips from the picturesque harbour, and the kipper smokery and coastal path at Craster. Adding to the area’s splendour is a chain of magnificent castles: Alnwick, home to the powerful Percy family and the setting for some of the Harry Potter films; spectacular, medieval Bamburgh, standing high on its rocky outcrop; the brooding ruins of Dunstanburgh and pretty Warkworth.
The Alnwick / Christon Bank area
Christon Bank is only eight miles north east of Northumberland's major market town, Alnwick, famous for its striking castle and beautiful gardens. At nearby Embleton, two miles east of Christon Bank are the unspoiled bays of Embleton and Low Newton by the sea with miles of sandy beaches and sand dunes just waiting to be explored. The Scottish Borders, Berwick upon Tweed and Holy Island with Lindisfarne are north of the village. An hour’s drive to the South is the lively city of Newcastle upon Tyne. The friendly village of Christon Bank has a local pub where real ale is available along with good food. Nearby villages also offer an extensive variety of restaurants and pubs. There are many activities to choose from, including horse riding, golf, cycle ways and coastal walks. Set within an area of stunning countryside, Christon Bank is the perfect place to take a relaxing family holiday.

Guestbook for 1686 - Corcroft Country
We have stayed in this property before. It is a very cosy, dog friendly cottage in a good location for good walking.

,Lovely cottage in a fabulous location with so many beautiful beaches to walk the dogs. The welcome pack was a nice touch and much appreciated. The locals were very friendly and welcoming but the bonus for us was to be able to take our dogs who loved snuggling up by the warm aga at night. We would definitely recommend a holiday at Corcroft Country Cottage.

,The lovely beaches and the friendly people. The cottage was very nice to come home to after a day touring. We loved the aga. Most important to us now we are pensioners is comfortable chairs and bed. The dogs had a great time as well. We have been renting holiday cottages for years and we liked it best. Great welcome pack good weather.
