About this location
The Chania Prefecture region
The local (nearest) shops are situated in Gavalochori (5 minutes drive) and Almyrida (8 minutes drive).
Gavalochori is a typical Cretan village with two mini-markets, a bakery and three tavernas. The village has its own women's co-operative selling hand made goods, a museum, and an old mill (being restored) and some Venetian wells, which are well worth exploring.
At Almyrida, you will find shops, tavernas, bars, gift shops and supermarkets as well as the excellent Blue Flag beaches. There are also various family activities such as water sports and ten pin bowling.
The villa is only a short drive away from Chania (pronounced Hania), which was once the islands capital. It has a famous Venetian harbour with quayside bars and tavernas and behind the harbour you can wander through the Old Town with its beautiful Venetian buildings and shops selling handicrafts, textiles, jewelery, leather goods and ceramics

"Villa Oleander is the perfect place to relax"
We stayed at Villa Oleander with some friends and had a wonderful week. Although the villa is on a main road there is not much traffic and it is perfectly private thanks to the well stocked garden which has olve trees and, of course, oleanders as well as much more besides. The inside was comfortable and clean and the kitchen well stocked with utensils although we ate out most of the time in Almyrida and Gavalachori which are both close by. We spent most of our time around the pool with the occasional drink under the verandah. We are already looking at dates to go back next year.
