The Costa Tropical/Granada region
The property is located on the Costa Tropical. Popular with the Spanish for years, but little known outside. It is now becoming popular with many more north Europeans discovering its delights. With a micro climate suitable for growing tropical fruit in its lush valleys and an average temperature reaching 20ºC and a yearly 320 days of sunshine it’s amazing that it’s taken so long to be discovered.
Now that the motorway has reached these shores it is no longer the arduous journey it once was. With journey times of approximately one hour from both Malaga and Granada Airports and ninety minutes from Almeria airport. This gives you a great opportunity to find a variety of bargain flights.
Our property is only ninety minutes away from the Sierra Nevada skiing resort, the most southerly in Europe. Giving you the rare opportunity of skiing in the morning and enjoying a swim in the Mediterranean in the afternoon to soak away your aches and pains.
Almunecar / Taramay area
When you tire of the beach, Almuñecar can provide you with a feast of fiestas, festivals, bars, shops, restaurants, parks and historic sites. And if you're still looking for something to do, you won't have to venture far to enjoy some of the most spectacular sights in the whole of Spain.
For a flavour of the town's colourful past, visit the Castillo de San Miguel - once a Roman fortress and later a Moorish castle used as a recreational palace by the Sultans of Granada. Its notorious dungeons once housed dethroned sultans, feared military leaders and ministers fallen from grace.
The castle was recaptured by the Christians in 1489 and is currently undergoing a long and painstaking restoration process. Important archaeological finds have been unearthed in and around the castle grounds, many of which are on display at the local museum.
The Museum of Archaeology, at Cueva de las Siete Palacios in the San Miguel district, has been built on the site of an ancient Roman construction (possibly a temple to the goddess Minerva). Its fascinating exhibits include an Egyptian vase fashioned from solid quartz in the 17th century BC. The vase, discovered in a local house, is thought to be Spain's oldest archaeological find bearing an inscription.
At the foot of the castle in the centre of Almuñecar you'll find the beautiful botanical and archaeological park of El Majuelo. The park has 180 types of exotic plants representing the tropical zones on both sides of the equator. The gardening enthusiasts among you will marvel at the trees, shrubs and flowers more commonly found in regions such as South America, Polynesia, Malaysia, Japan and Papua New Guinea. There are several "casitas" where you can sit in the shade and enjoy the beauty and tranquillity of the park. The remains of an old Roman fish-curing factory are sited within the grounds.
Nearby is the "Loro Sexi" Ornithological Park with its 1,500 birds - from doves, swans and ducks to peacocks, parrots and cockatoos. Ostriches stroll through the grounds to the delight of the 30,000 visitors who flock here each year. The park's Cactus Garden provides a stark contrast to the colourful and lush vegetation of the nearby botanical gardens. The park is just 100 metres from the seafront and is accessed by one of the prettiest footpaths in Almuñecar.
For shoppers, the town has a good range of stores offering local produce, handicrafts, clothes, leather goods etc. The municipal market, El Mercado, is excellent for fresh fruit, fish and veg. It's open every morning except Sundays in the town centre. Every Friday morning there's a market where you can get everything from pretty local ceramics to cheap watches.

Guestbook for Pozuelo beach
All I can say is Wow, what a lovely apartment and situated just a short stroll from the beach and nearby restaurants. The apartment was very clean and furnished to a high standard with a beautiful terrace for our breakfast and evening drinks. We had a fantastic holiday here and just loved Almunecar with it's cobbled streets, shops, and bars. Would recommend to anybody (Kim Greener, Bedfordshire UK)
Five of us stayed in this beautiful apartment for a week. We wanted for nothing – all provided for us. Owners were very helpful prior to our departure advising on sites and restaurants in Taramay and Almunecar to visit. Fantastic cheap bus service into centre but we also walked it a few times. The vast balcony where we had lazy breakfasts, drinks or just lazed in the sunshine was a huge bonus. It was lovely to visit an area which although catering for tourists, has not lost its true Spanish feel. We certainly would recommend this apartment and we all voted to return in the near future. The Kirkham Clan, Bedfordshire.
Wonderful apartment in a wonderful part of Spain.I have stayed here a few times now and would highly recommend it. It is close to the beach and many bars and restaurants and only a short drive from the beautiful town of Almunecar.Wonderful large terrace with views over the sea and mountains set in a peaceful tranquil area.Sleeps 4 comfortably but have stayed with 5 on one occasion with no problem. The apartment has everything you need for your stay and has always been immaculate on my arrival.Well worth a visit while Amunecar is still unspoilt. The Cooper Family, Uk.
I went to the apartment on my own for a week, I had the most tremendous time, the people were so friendly in the local bars and restaurants which are just a short walk away. The apartment is excellent, very welcoming with everything you need. The terrace has the most amazing views and is so peaceful. You can catch the local bus to the nearby town of Almunecar, where there is a large variety of shops, restaurants and bars. You can also reach Almunecar by walking along the coast which takes around 30 minutes. One more thing to say – I’ll be back. Kay - Nottinghamshire
Without doubt a very pleasant apartment, very conveniently located within a few minutes stroll to the nearby beach, bar/restaurants, and the all important mini supermarket. Whilst a car is not necessary we would suggest not having one, especially if you are there for more than a week, is missing out on a great opportunity to see a non-touristy part of Spain. The meet and greet with the local agents, Roy & Carol, was efficiently handled and their "welcome drink" (a bottle of red wine and a bottle of water) was very much appreciated. It was a pleasure to find this accommodation so clean and well presented and we would have no hesitation in recommending this property to everyone. Jack & Hilary Blumenow, Wimbledon London.
Four of us stayed in the apartment, which was fresh and airy and ideal for our needs. Spent most of our time on the extremely large terrace. The hot tub a very useful addition, ideal for relaxing. Excellent location, which still has a Spanish feel about it. All in all highly recommended! Sue & Dave Conroy7/6/2009 3:56:09 AM
