The Costa Tropical/Granada region
The Costa Tropical has 19kms of rugged coastline with lots of coves and beautiful bays, there is also 26 different beaches with excellent facilities, all set against a backdrop of majestic mountains. In the winter months it's possible to sunbathe in the morning and to ski in the afternoon, you can even ski through the night at weekends, the Solynieve ski resort and village is only just over an hours drive away, the resort boasts 61 kms of ski slopes, 45 pistes and 6 off piste routes, other facilities there include bars, restaurants, shops and hotels. A visit to the world famous UNESCO world heritage Alhambra Palace is a must, finish off with a walk round the beautiful cosmopolitan city of Granada, which is now just under an hours drive away. Other sities of great interest within easy reach are Malaga and Almeria, with Seville and Cordoba near enough to go for the day.
Almunecar / Cotobro area
Almuneacar is a town of charm and character overlooked by a Moorish castle, it was founded amost 3000 years ago by the Phoenicians, its the tourist capital of the Costa Tropical. It boasts a micoclimate which allows the cultivation of tropical fruits not found in other parts of Europe. There are many restaurants to sample here, if you are a lover of fish this is the place for you, most nationalities are catered for, a three course menu del dia can be enjoyed for as little as 7.50 euros. Also remember on the Costa Tropical when you buy a drink the tapas are free, La China is a must for tapas ( don't eat before you go though). There is no shotage of things to do, these include the excellent watersports facilities, the best diving in the region, divers will discover the best underwater courses here than anywhere along the southern coast. 3 golf courses are within easy drive, and paragliding to name a few. For family fun, Almunecar has a water park which is open during the summer months, a bird park, a new aquarium, and the lovely botanical gardens Parque del Majuelo, where very often different festivals and concerts are staged. Try coming over for Semana Santa ( Easter), Almunecar's processions are regarded as some of the best in Spain. The pretty seaside town of Nerja is only a 20 minute drive away, visit the famous Nerja Caves. Also well worth a visit is the hilltop while village of Frigilliana, again only about 25 minutes drive. For naturists, there are a couple of beaches , the best being Cantarrijan, which is very close. Almunecar town is less than a five minute drive from Villa Estrella de Cotobro, there you have all the shops you need as well as banks and supermarkets. Cotobro itself is an exclusive area, inbetween Almunecar and La Herradura.

A lovely surprise to find that we had fabulous views from every window of this super villa, this is our first visit to this region but we have found that it has plenty to offer, we have enjoyed visits to various beaches, the marina, the bird and water parks as well as trips further afield.
