"El Nido" (The Nest) is a private detached villa with a private pool in Los Pinos, Almunecar. The Villa has stunning panoramic views of the sea and the mountains. El Nido is very quiet and yet just minutes away from a year round bustling town. The villa is split into various levels as it is on the side of the headland hill known as "Los Pinos". All the levels are connected via the garden. The top floor of the house has three generous double bedrooms, one en-suite, a family shower room, the kitchen and the sitting/dining room. There are also two terraces. The main one is spacious and has a dining table for 6. The other one is in front of the main bedroom and quite private from the rest of the house. The lower floor can be an independent 1/2 bedroom apartment, bath/shower room,sitting/dining/kitchen and a large terrace in front. It is perfectly set up for friends/families sharing or just one big happy group. The owners use the house as their own. The house, terraces, pool and gardens are lovingly looked after. Please note that El Nido is 76 meters above sea level and so it is on the side of Los Pinos Headland. If you have any doubts about its location, please ask me.

There are two main rules for renting my house: 1- You must treat it as if it was your own. 2- You must have a great time while you are there!

Bedrooms: Upstairs the main bedroom has a king size bed or two single beds. Bedroom 2 has a king size bed or 2 single beds. Bedroom 3 has a kingsize double bed or two single beds. Downstairs, the main bedroom has a king size bed or 2 singles. There is also a double sofa bed in the sitting room for occasional use.

Bathrooms: Upstairs: En-suite shower room to main bedroom and a further family shower room just opposite bedroom 2. Downstair the bathroom has a bath, a separate shower, a WC, basin with under cabinet and a bidet.

Kitchen: The upstairs kitchen is fully equipped with all modern appliances (oven, electric hob, dishwasher, microwave,washing machine, kettle, etc) and kitchen utensils.The downstairs kitchen is also fully equipped but it's smaller and it does not have an oven.

Utility Room: Available to the apartment there is an array of garden furniture, pool loungers, dining tables and chairs etc.

The upstairs living room is open plan with a dining table and a comfortable sofa. The sitting room opens to the terrace and the panoramic views. There is a flat screen TV and a DVD player. There is a small collection of DVDs available to guests. The downstairs sitting room is open plan with the kitchen/dining.

All the bedrooms and bathrooms are strategically situated to provide maximum privacy from each other. This house is perfect for a large family or sharing families, friends sharing or a couple seeking a private luxury spot all to themselves.

The Villa is surrounded by its own garden which is mainly laid to terraces and potted plants. There are palm trees in the pool area which provide the perfect shade in the summer. All the terraces have tables and chairs. There are loungers available to use around the pool. The swimming pool has proper steps which make it very easy to get in and out of. There is a shower by the pool which must be used before and after using the pool. The filtration system of the pool is almost chemical free.

The Andalucia region

This bit of coast is called the "tropical Coast" for a very good reason. The winters are the mildest in main land Europe and the summers are not as hot as other Andalusian parts. The fertile valleys of the area grow Papayas, avocados, custard apples, medlars, etc.

The Tropical coast is sandwiched between the Sierra Nevada to the North (3,450 meters high) and the Med and Africa to the South. Because of this, it has a very special climate.

This coast has more than 320 sunny days a year and an average temperature of 20. The Costa Tropical translates as a heavenly place. Its extensive beaches, with clear blue waters, have been repeatedly awarded the exclusive eco-label Blue Flag. These beaches draw thousands of both Spanish and foreign visitors. However, this area does not suffer the problems affecting other regions and it remains very Spanish.

The tourism boom that took place in Spain during the 60s and 70s arrived late to the Costa Tropical and that is why it has successfully kept away from becoming a grey urbanized and tourist-stricken land mass like other parts of Spain.

Almunecar is only 1 hour and 15 minutes away (by car) from Sierra Nevada. The ski season in Sierra Nevada runs from late November/early December to after Easter and it has been known to remain open into May when the snow has allowed it. Sierra Nevada is the most southerly ski resort in Europe and unbeliebably, it has fantastic snow for 3 months of the year. The highest slope goes almost to the very top of the mountain at 3,400 meters. One can easily ski in the morning and swin in the sea in the afternoon. From the top of Sierra Nevada, Africa is clearly visible on a clear day.

The Coast around Almunecar has wide family beaches as well as many coves and dramatic cliffs. There are also various nudists beaches.

All sorts of sports are easily available in and around Almunecar. Scuba diving, golf, horse riding, paraglyding, moutain biking, road cycling, hiking, canyoning, walking, etc, etc. One can even do absolutely nothing and simply enjoy the nice coffee bars and restaurants that the area has to offer.

Almunecar

Almunecar is a busy town all year around.

Almunecar has a very long history which predates the Romans. This is reflected in its arquitecture and monuments. The Old town and its handsome Moorish castle sit on a small hill between the mouths of two rivers. Almunecar has managed to retain the atmosphere and character of an old Spanish town with winding narrow streets and tapas bars. Besides tourism, fishing and the growing of tropical fruits remain at the heart of the town's day to day life.

Almunecar's beaches have excellent facilities -pedalos, beach beds and parasols for hire, showers and toilets and life-guards in high season. The beach fronts are lined with typical Spanish restaurants and bars serving delicious seafood and tapas.

The town has a water park, bird park and botanical gardens.

There is an open air market every Friday selling Spanish leather goods and pottery as well as bargain clothing.

The first Saturday of each month is the craft and flea market.

Granada is the only province in Spain that will serve you a free Tapa with your drink. Have a couple of drinks and you will have had a free lunch! They do exist in Granada!

Malaga and Granada are only an hour away from Almunecar. There are many things to do and see in either of them. If you plan to visit the Alhambra, make sure you book in advance to avoid dissapointment.

"Perfect location ,stunning views"

Ana couldn't have been more helpful we found many restaurants our favourite was Casa Paco staff very friendly yes parking is tricky but the under ground car parks are useful the Zoo Pena Escrita is a must nerve racking drive but agan stunning views and its free The area below the villa Velilla is great comes to life at night with the Spanish going out for dinner around 10 and free tapas adds to the real Spanish feel very few English Almunecar is a real find and we can't wait to return once again great owner Thanks Ana for letting us share your Spanish home

"Nice villa but very disappointing town"

Positives - fantastic views from villa. Lovely balconies and nice pool.
Negatives - we are not afraid to walk but in this heat the walk from town back to the villa would have been too hard and would have been dangerous at night because unlit and no pavement. Shame as i was hoping to ditch the car. Parking in Almunecar was really difficult - I can't recall anywhere quite so bad. Almunecar was very disappointing - complete lack of sophistication and ugly buildings lining the sea front.

I am really sorry that you did not enjoy Almunecar. We all enjoy different things in life and I hope that you will find a spot more to your liking for your next holiday.

As I say in the description, El Nido is 90 meters (86 to be precise) above sea level and just over a kilometer to the town. So, the hill is undeniable. But I guess there would be no views without a hill. Perhaps I should advise guests on the fact that there is always parking in the underground car parks on the seafront. Taxis are also very cheap at €6 for the return trip. I will add this now to the guests information document. Thank you very much for your feedback.

"A memorable family holiday in a comfortable home in the sun"

Right from the time of booking we knew that this woud be a wonderful holiday. The layout of a large 3 bedroomed villa with a self-contained apartment below with 1 bedroom,bathroom kitchenette and lounge, suited our needs perfectly. The views were stunning, we spent every day relaxing by the pool. The two palm trees give just enough shade to make it a very comfortable place to relax. Ana could not have been more helpful. The villa provides all you could need for a restful self catering holiday. The area was quiet, clean and very safe. I would recommend a car. The downside of such a view is that the walk down to the beach and town is very steep, but we managed it down and back up several times, not with the supermarket shopping though.

"Great Holiday Fantastic Villa"

My husband,myself, my daughter, her husband and our 4yr old granddaughter have just come back from a fabulous holiday staying in El Nido. The villa itself was everything you could wish for,fabulous views from the balcony and inside very well equipped with everything you need. The town of, Almunecar is only a five minute drive away and has every thing from great restaurants and shops to beautiful beaches.Ana was so helpful.She was at the other end of the phone if we had a problem and was quick to resolve it. There was also a very good information pack listing local restaurants and shops and interesting places to visit.We really didn't want to leave and would certainly go back.We would like to thank Ana again for allowing us to stay in her beautiful villa

"El Nido, a shame we had to leave!!!!"

We, me and my wife, my sister with her husband and son and my 88 yr old dad stayed at El Nido from 8/ 15 March and we had a lovely stay.

The house is simply great, is has everything you need. It has lots of space on the inside and it`s a luxury problem to decide to sit on which terrace .
The views are unbelievable, the surrounding area has a lot to offer. Nice beaches, a town centre with los of shops, lots of good restaurants (you really have to go to STRAND, where Swedish Anna serves delicious meals).
The Sierra Nevada is at a good hour drive, the Subaru Outback which comes with the house is perfect for getting there. Great service from Red Parking with their transfer van to and from the airport..

The owner of the house, Ana, is really one of a kind. Every question was answered by her prompt and she gives you all the detailed information that is required. I can`t imagine a better and host than her.
Therefore again many thanks to her and Russel for having us at El Nido, it really was a shame we had to leave again!.

What great guests we have! We are very lucky people!

"Brilliant time enjoying the great location and accommodation in the traditional Spanish town and area of Almunecar!"

A perfect family holiday. Although late October the weather and accommodation did not disappoint. The apartment was spacious and clean and we wanted for nothing which is unusually with three boys (aged 12, 10 and 5). Fishing from the rock jetty directly below the house was extremely successful even though this was our first time. Many choices for good traditional food, our favourite being the largest paella I have ever seen just on the local beach. Probably the first holiday we wished we had booked for longer. Will definitely return.
