El Cobertizo
About the home
El Cobertizo is an amazing unique shabby chic farmhouse with a Moroccan influence offering total privacy, all day sun and al fresco dining with a roof top sea view. We are located just a twenty minute picturesque drive from the beach into the hills overlooking the lush tropical valley of Los Banuelos once favoured by the Phoenicians. Quiet, peaceful and totally private this is the 'stuff of dreams', the 'real Spain' where the sound of goats' bells still tinkle over the hills.
It is easily accessible to La Herradura, Salobrena, Nerja, Malaga and Marbella or a visit to Granada, the Alhambra and local markets for bargain hunting, Otivar water falls, day sailing from Marina del Este and many excellent restaurants for eating out. The villa benefits from its own private 10.5 meter pool. Four rooms all on one level have access to the spacious terraces and pool with stunning mountain views. With four double bedrooms the villa is ideal for families, with plenty in the surrounding area to see and do during your stay.

Further details indoors:
This is a really amazing unique and flexible home - we have four double beds (one a super king) two huge sofas and extra single mattresses so we can be very accommodating. There are two small but perfectly formed bathrooms one with a shower/loo, one with a bath/loo and and outside shower room. Two hot water tanks so plenty of hot water. A/C and fans in every room, two TVs with SKY Freeview, a shady kasbah overlooking the pool with ipod station plus a book and music library.
Further details outdoors:
There are two outside dining areas - one beside the pool and gas BBQ - one on the roof with stunning sea and mountain views. The tiled ionised pool is crystal clear with night lighting. There are numerous terraces filled with plants and trees - sun beds and lounging areas. Fantastic hiking right on the doorstep - many birds: eagles, hoo poos, bee eaters, swallows, finches and many more.
The pool is 10.5 x 4.5 and around 1.6 metres deep throughout and is NOT fenced

Enquire nowThe Costa Tropical region
Granada! What a fantastic vibrant university city - home of the 'eighth wonder of the world' the Alhambra Palace and close to the Sierra Nevada mountain range (beautiful in summer too) and of course the region of mountain villages known as Las Alpujarras, famous for their unique mini-ecology, clinging to the southern flanks with deep, sheltered tropical valleys and gorges which run down towards the Mediterranean.
Less than an hour's drive and you reach the old fishing port of Motril on the Costa Tropical. (There is stunning country route taking you instead through Otivar with her waterfalls and through the village of Jete to Almunecar, Marina del Este and La Herradura (horseshoe bay) on the coast) - just 15 minutes from Nerja and an hour and a half from Marbella!
The Almunecar / Los Banuelos area
Los Banuelos is a 20 minute breathtakingly beautiful drive into the hills and mountains behind Almunecar town where there is truly something for everyone - restaurants, shops, a picturesque marina, sailing and watersports, hang gliding, golf, horse riding, mountain biking, climbing, trekking, a bird park and much more. Many historical sites, art galleries, local artisans' exhibits and cultural venues including a Roman fort, aquaducts, Phonecian fish farms, caves and museums.
The Costa Tropical has 19km of coastline and over 20 beaches; some are hidden coves, some designated for naturists, many have plenty of beach side cafes and restaurants with lively tapas bars and night life. Enjoy real Flamenco in authentic surroundings or just relax. Almunecar is a 50 minute easy drive from Malaga or Granada airport. Our house in the mountains is totally private but not isolated. We are surrounded by olive groves, mangoes, lemons and avocados - in these tough economic and difficult times the Spanish are returning to their roots - happy industrious families farming their land, re-terracing their hills with the sound of singing and laughter reverberating - especially at weekends when they visit their cortijos.

Planes and car hire are easily found on line. El Cobertizo is 9 year old shabby chic mountain villa, delightfully designed and built by us with a Moorish influence, situated in the lush tropical mountains of Los Banuelos - just 9km from the coast. Malaga and Granada airports are equal distance.
The drive from Malaga Airport is to Almuncar is very easy, around 45 minutes, and mostly motorway.
Leave airport and go straight on at roundabout. When passing San Miguel brewery keep in left lane,
signposted to Malaga. Continue over bridge and loop to the right, this then joins the 3-lane road - N340.
After approx 1.2 km, ignore first exit (signed – cambio de sentido). After a further 0.7 kilometres, be in right hand lane and follow signs to Motril – Almeria, bear right to loop over bridge and join motorway E15 – A7 (careful of speed ramps and slow moving traffic on bridge).
Stay on the motorway E15 – A7 following signs Motril - Almeria. The motorway ends at La Herradura, then continue on the N340 to Almuñecar Town.
From Granada Airport drive towards Motril on the Costa Tropical where you join the N340 through Salobrena to Almunecar (heading towards Malaga).
I will meet you personally at the only Repsol Petrol Station just near the main traffic lights in Almunecar, to guide you up into hills. Access is easily attained by car (4 x 4 not necessary) although the 20 minute journey is along a narrow, long and twisting road with sheer drop offs. Be ready for an exciting adventure and discovering 'the real Spanish countryside'. www.malagacarhire.com and www.malagacar.com are good car hire websites.

We stayed here over Christmas with two young kids. The house was beautiful, the views spectacular, the stargazing amazing, and the location wonderful for relaxing or easy for many fascinating day trips. Harriet and Paul were excellent hosts - extremely friendly and helpful. Gave an insight into a side of Spain not otherwise easily available. Highly recommended for short or long stays! Response: Thank you for such a positive review - we really enjoyed spending some time with you and the girls - hope you had a great time in Barcellona on your route home.....all the very best Paul and Harriet |

From the moment Harriet and Paul showed us their gorgeous house, we knew it would be difficult to leave. The photos here show a wonderful hideaway within easy driving distance to all amenities and what you see on arrival is even better. Paul and Harriet were extremely helpful and it was a pleasure to meet them. The house is huge and beautifully decorated with such detail it really feels like a home, complete with the sweetest cat! The kitchen is fabulously equipped with everything a kitchen could ever need and the kasbah is perfect for afternoon sangria and a relaxing nap. As we stayed in the middle of July the weather was scorching on some days and it was a real treat to sunbathe by the pool and enjoy a dip, or make use of the air conditioning throughout the house. You will not be disappointed. Be prepared for an exhilarating first drive up to the house as the hillside roads are steep in places but really adds to the feeling of stepping out of reality for a little while. A great experience I will never forget. Thank you. |

The owners have created a beautiful house and equipped it to a very high standard. A lot of consideration has gone into ensuring you have a fantastic stay. From the very generous welcome pack of food & drink on arrival to the quality of the beds, the wifi, SkyTV, high quality furnishings, air conditioning, beautiful swimming pool, the list goes on. We also found the owners to be kind, considerate and flexible which also added to the whole experience, thank you. We'll be back! |
