Mulberry House is a lovely modern split level villa in a small row of villas, nestled on a terraced hillside only 200m from the sandy beach of Almyrida. The villa is conveniently positioned in the middle of the row, next to the entrance archway to the pool terrace, which gives quick and easy access to the swimming pool. Both the pool terrace and the villa’s 2 balconies have fabulous uninterrupted views of the olive clad hills that surround the village and The White Mountains which are snow capped for at least 6 months of the year. Just 3-4 minutes walk from the beach and many excellent tavernas, cafes and shops, this villa is a great choice for those seeking value for money, beautiful views, comfortable accommodation, and easy access to the many local amenities. Larger groups or families who like to holiday next to each other but still value their privacy, might like to consider also booking either/both of the 2 other villas that we handle in this small terrace of 5 villas.

The villa’s design has been carefully thought out so that all of the balconies, terraces, and the pool area benefit from the marvellous mountain and olive covered hill and valley views. The living area has prime position on the top floor of Mulberry House whilst the bedrooms are on the lower levels, which helps to keep them cooler during the long hot summer months. The villa has been thoughtfully decorated and furnished by the English owners to combine quality and comfort with traditional Greek design. The typical Greek colours of blue and white dominate in the fully tiled bathrooms and the bedrooms. The full bathroom and the shower room have pretty blue tiles, the cloak room has terracotta and white tiles, and they all have white suites. The bedrooms have been furnished with lovely sea blue tinted wooden furniture that was handmade at the workshop of a local craftsman, and the gorgeous blue light fitting in the double bedroom was handmade at the glass blowing workshop in the nearby village of Kokkino Horio. The walls throughout the villa are painted white, and there are white aluminium window frames, shutters and doors which enhance the villa’s light and airy feel which is perfect for the long hot summers here on Crete.

There are olive groves on 2 sides of the Almrida Heights row of villas, yet this beautiful countrified setting belies the fact that Mulberry House is so close to the centre of the village. This is the perfect spot from which to stroll out to dinner without having to worry about driving home.

The Crete region

Crete has everything you that could possibly want from a holiday: soaring mountains that are snow capped from November to June, many great walking trails including Europe's deepest gorge, ancient archaeological sites and Minoan palaces, quaint villages, sparkling clear blue seas with tavernas serving freshly caught fish, golden beaches, glorious wild flowers in the Spring, and a variety of delicious foods which are all made from healthy home grown produce.

As incredible as the island is, it is the Cretan people who will make your holiday truely memorable. Descendants of the Minoan's, one of Europe's earliest civilizations, and shaped by centuries of struggle against oppression, the Cretans are as rugged as the mountains, fiercely independent but passionately friendly.

Mulberry House is located in the heart of The Apokoronas Region just east of the beautiful town of Chania. With its stunning Venetian harbour, quayside bars and restaurants, what better place to relax and watch the world go by. In the narrow streets behind Chania's harbour you will find tavernas, bars, the famous covered market, and many local shops selling handicrafts, textiles, jewellery and hand made ceramics. Visit 'Leather Lane' for outstanding hand made leather bargains.

The climate of Crete is a temperate Mediterranean climate and the weather is characterized by long hot, dry summers and mild winters. The Spring can be warm and sunny during the day but still have cooler evenings and is perfect for walking, birdwatching and looking at the wild flowers. All in all Crete is absolutely perfect for your Villa holiday.

Almerida area

The heart of the lovely village of Almyrida is only 250m from Mulberry House and is built around a pretty crescent shaped sandy beach, with a small fishing harbour at the eastern end. The beach is very shallow and safe, which is good news if you have children or are not a strong swimmer. Lining the beach are 4 excellent tavernas, 9 café/bars, 2 bakeries, a wonderful jewellery shop, 5 mini-markets, 3 gift shops, the Villas Crete Holidays Tourist office owned and run by Frankie Miles, and an off-license. Also in Almyrida there is a water sports centre which rents out kayaks, windsurfers and catamarans.

A few minutes by car from the villa, there are a huge variety of archaeological sites and traditional villages with wonderful tavernas. There is also an interesting selection of small craft centres and museums, including glass blowing in Kokkino Horio, lace makers in Gavalohori, and silk makers in Kalamitsi. For those of you looking for even more activity, the historic town of Chania is only 30 minutes away by car.

Cooking classes and wine tasting set at a local winery can be taken by those of you who are interested. Guided walks led by experts in mountaineering and/or flora and fauna can also be arranged. For those of you who prefer to venture out on your own, a free copy of the guide book "Crete on the Road" by Frankie Miles comes with every villa. The book contains detailed directions to many well known and hidden sites, opening times and prices for all attractions, taverna recommendations, and the only existing map of the National Highway showing the exits and entrances.

An easy 30 minute drive from Chania Airport.

** Many other flight options from Heraklion Airport which is a 1 hour and 45 minute drive along the pretty coastal highway.

** Cheap flights available by many companies including EasyJet into Heraklion Airport.

** Other good flight options provided by Thomas Cook, Monarch, First Choice and Thompson (among others).

** Excellent value car hire provided by the villa agent.

** Comfortable local taxis (usually Mercedes) can be booked for you by the villa agent.

Mulberry House has 2 main bedrooms which can accommodate 4 persons as well as additional sleeping room for 2 extra guests. The lower level has a large hall/extra room which has a full-size sofa bed/futon that sleeps 2 persons. The double bedroom and the twin bedroom are both situated next to a bathroom, and they are on different floors which allows for greater peace and privacy for the guests in these rooms. Each terrace has outdoor furniture so that you can fully unwind and take in the views, and there is a BBQ should you choose to cook on the upstairs balcony or out by the pool. In order to make your stay all the more enjoyable Mulberry House has been finished to a high standard and includes; pine kitchen cabinets, peach and terracotta mottled effect kitchen worktops, a breakfast bar, a microwave oven, a washing machine, a kettle, a toaster, Satellite TV, a DVD player, a CD player/radio, a number of books, and air conditioning units in the bedrooms and living room. The a/c units also double up as heaters for the cooler nights early and late season.

Mulberry House has a number of outdoor balconies and terraces which are on different levels so that there are always seating areas with either sun or shade. The upstairs terrace has a beautiful bougainvillea climbing up the wall. The front of the villa is also framed by a stunning fuchsia bougainvillea, and it also has a jasmine plant whose gorgeous fragrance fills the air on the warm summer nights. Also at the front of the villa are 2 grassed areas which small children can happily crawl around on. The south facing pool terrace is set high above the road with natural stone paving around the shared pool. There are sun-beds, umbrellas, and a panoramic view of the valley and mountains. There is a parking area set just off the small road below the villa that is for the sole use of the guests of the Almyrida Heights villas.

Children are most welcome in all our properties and we provide a free High Chair and Cot loan service but, we do ask that Children are supervised at all times whilst around and in the Swimming Pool.

We do ask that Reservations are made at least 2 weeks in advance to avoid disappointment. As with all our Villas, a discount is available for stays longer than two weeks.

All prices shown are for the Villa and not per person. As with all our Villas on the Island, we can arrange Car Hire through reputable companies. We also offer Airport Transport service.

All of our villas are available for Long Term Winter lets at Greatly Reduced Prices but the price during the winter does not include fuel for the central heating or electricity - these will be incur an additional charge.
