The Andalucia / Cordoba Province region
Andalucia is a walker's and cyclists paradise with amazing light for photography.
Wildlife includes the illusive genet, wild boar, polecats and hares.
Birdlife abounds with Hoopoes, Bee Eaters, Bonelli Eagles, Golden Orioles and Red Kites.
The Romans and the Moors both left their mark on Andalucia; the Alhambra Palace in Granada is perhaps the most well known example. History is ingrained in the towns, villages and countryside of the region - in the architecture, the fountains and the food.
The people are friendly and delighted that you would choose to visit their region.
Summers are long and hot with practically guaranteed sunshine. Spring and Autumn are delightful with long growing seasons. Winter can be very cold in comparison!
Priego de Cordoba has won one of the top awards for the quality of its olive oil and many olive mills welcome visitors to learn about the process and tempt them with ecological hand creams, soaps and other olive oil products in addition to the amazing extra virgin oil of the region.
The Almedinilla area
There are numerous Saint’s Days, National bank holidays and local holidays – essentially, the Andalucians love a fiesta! We are pleased to find out what is going on at the time of your visit but in advance please visit:

Almedinilla itself is incredibly proud of its Roman heritage. Visit the excavations at the roman villa and the museum. The pretty little town even has its own full sized colliseum!

We celebrated the arrival of 2013 by eating 12 grapes as the twelve chimes rang in the New Year. We were included with our hosts and their friends for a meal in the lovely casa. Winter weather was bright and sunny most days, with a brilliant blue sky. Mornings were frosty and cold, the evenings sharp with a wonderful clear, starry sky. Our log box was filled daily with wood and kindling for the excellent log burning stove – which very quickly warmed the whole of the casita. However, most lunches were eaten on the patio in the sun.We experienced olive picking the local harvest around the casita, with its amazing views across many olive groves to the Sierras beyond. Places we visited: After a one and a half hour drive up to the ski slopes of the Sierra Nevada, we sat in the sun, watching skiers and snowboarders enjoying the slopes – from the comfort of an outdoor restaurant. The Fortaleza de la Mota castle at Alcala La Real was well worth an extended visit to see a heritage site undergoing impressive restoration, with its history brought to life by an audio stick and many slide shows in the various towers and main buildings. Another trip was to the long beach of Lake Iznajar. We were also recommended some very good value 'Menus del Dia' at each of the places we visited. This was a little gem of a place to stay, with everything we needed to be warm and comfortable. There was a very good range of TV programmes; we were even able to select our own region of the UK to see the local news at home. Debbie and Jay could not have been more friendly, helpful and hospitable. We have already booked for another stay this September – to try out their plunge pool, when the sun is somewhat higher in the sky and the nearby fiestas are in full swing! Response: Wonderful to have you here and share something of this very special little corner of Andalucia with you. We are looking forward to welcoming you back to Casa Girasol in the late summer - if you thought that winter was great here, just wait until you experience the real Spanish summer fiestas! |

We stayed at Casa Girasol for 12 days in June/July last year and loved every minute. Flying into Malaga, we collected our hire car and set off on the nice drive to the casita. Upon our arrival a... more Response: it was our pleasure - so glad you both joined us for the fiesta under the trees with the giant paella for all of the village. |
