There is fun for all the family in our games room which has table tennis & table football. The games room leads out to 2.5 hectares of grounds. Here we have a communal seating area where you can sit, glass of wine in hand, and watch the stunning sunsets. A large section of the land has been set aside for general recreation - Football, boules & croquet can all be played here. For the little ones there are swings, a seesaw and a slide they can play on. A selection of bikes is available for guests to borrow for small trips into town for a loaf, perhaps, or for longer trips around the quiet lanes in the beautiful surrounding countryside.
Please note that as well as providing all bed and table linen we also supply swimming towels.
Pool open from May to September.
The Pays de la Loire region
The Loire area derives much of its fame from the large number of historically interesting buildings and towns that exist in the area.
For hundreds of years it was the region where the French aristocracy would come to relax and replenish energy reserves depleted by constant warring with the English.
The Loire area has extensive forests that provided the nobility with excellent hunting. To guarantee their comfort while in the area, they constructed opulent chateaux many of which are still standing and can be visited today.
The river itself has now been designated a world heritage site - a testament to the importance placed on the conservation of the wetland habitat which borders the longest river in France.
Saumur is an ancient, bustling market town, full of historic and elegant townhouses. It straddles a strategic and beautiful stretch of the River Loire. The Chateau de Saumur, the local wines, the sandy banks of the river, the equestrian traditions and historical sites, all the threads that typify the Loire region seem to be gathered together in Saumur. For those that find the town centre a little too comfortable, there are many trogolodite caves and dwellings to contemplate nearby.
There are many activities which can be enjoyed in the area. For those who enjoy cycling there is a huge network of cycle paths. These lead you down leafy country tracks or small roads and provide another way to enjoy the magnifent local countryside. There are many marked walks that can be enjoyed in the local forests. Nearby is an equestrian centre where horse-riding can be enjoyed. For those who like golf there is a 12 hole golf course just the other side of Saumur in a pretty town called St Hilaire de Florent. This is also the site of the famous Gratien Meyer sparkling wine and a wine tasting here could replace the normal 25th hole! In both Saumur & Bourgeuil there are riverside water parks set alongside the Loire where you can swim or hire dingys or canoes.
La Grange & La Forge lie at the heart of the famous Chinon, Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil, Bourgueil and Saumur Champigny wine growing areas which are all within easy reach. Wine tastings are readily arranged on request.
In the immediate vicinity of La Grange, on the outskirts of Allonnes, lies the renowned Parc de Maupassant which boasts fine walks and a fine selection of gardens including a magnificent rose garden and a world famous peony collection. In neighbouring Brain sur Allonnes there is a medieval botanical garden with borders that feature over 600 varieties of medicinal and gastronomic plants and herbs. Throughout history these have been used for a variety of purposes including poisoning, very occasional healing and fairly frequent forays into witchcraft. Also in Brain are located world-famous caves where aspiring artists daubed in paleolithic times.
Allonnes (only 1.5 kms away) has a range of small shops including bread shops, a butcher, traiteur and, most importantly, a supermarket that is even open on Sunday mornings! It also has a garage, banks, hairdressers, & bars.

We are so glad you both enjoyed your holiday here so much. We are really fortunate to be located in such a tranquil and yet central location. While the countryside around us here is fairly flat it manages nonetheless to be very beautiful with lots of trees and clusters of ancient tuffeau-stone buildings. We much enjoyed meeting you and hope to see you again.

Thank you so much for your lovely review. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your holiday in La Grange. It was good to see you arrive with all your bikes on the roof, ready to check out our quiet tracks. We have been struggling with wifi expanders for years in an attempt to push internet through the very thick walls of La Grange. It is a little too late for you for which we apologise profoundly, but they have at last invented a system that passes a signal along the mains allowing a wifi hotspot to be created at the far end end within La Grange itself. This is a slightly technical way of explaining that we are at last able to solve the problem of intermittent wifi! Next time you come here we are sure you will be greatly pleased by the improvement.

A superb location with the culture and classic French delights of wine and cheeses readily available. Nice and quiet plus peaceful to rest and enjoy the immaculate accommodation including a large spotless swimming pool. This is family run and the care and attention to detail clearly shows ensuring your stay is perfect. You can be assured of a genuine friendly welcome from a really nice family with local knowledge. The garden is secure and the Gite private so you can relax and enjoy your surroundings.
This has to be the benchmark others aim to achieve.
