The Cumbria region

Spectacular scenery, lakes, mountains including the highest mountain in England: Scafell Pike, and a wonderful coastline, glorious in the summer and dramatic in the winter, this area makes a perfect year round retreat.

You can enjoy a relaxed stroll around the picturesque villages or Buttermere Lake. Climb or walk up mountains, including all Wainwrights. Immerse yourself in history by exploring the areas castles, stately Homes and museums. The young and the adventurous can let off steam with the huge variety of outdoor activities on offer, from gill scrambling, canoeing to horse riding. Or the more extreme sports of kitesurfing, there is something to suit all interests.

If you're feeling hungry, the region contains some first class eateries, from traditional tea shops to fine dining. Keswick and Cockermouth both boast a wealth of restaurants to suit every palette with ingredients sourced from local producers. Local fish dishes and Herdwick Lamb a specialty!


The popular seaside resort of Allonby, Cumbria's hidden gem, is situated on the coast of the Western Lake District. being in the top 50 in Britain. The excellent Cumbria Coastal path and now the cycleway, runs right along the coastline. Plus it is one of the best bays for kitesurfing and windsurfing. Lots of choice for eating out with 2 pubs, 3 cafes and a fish and chip takeaway all in Allonby village. There is also a general store and off licence, plus homemade icecream to sample.With the attractions and beautiful landscapes of the Lake District National Park within easy touring distance. Allonby is a delightful holiday location.

"In need of updating"

Lovely location friendly village but the house is in need of updating we found the Walls was damp and we had small children with breathing problems the porch leacked a lot but all the bedding and towels wear all clean and fresh .

We are sorry that a couple of aspects caused you concern. An unprecedented amount of rain in the UK was problematic for many homeowners during 2012. In October we spent in excess of £8,000 re-rendering the gable end of the house, to address a couple of areas of damp. It then takes a little while to dry internally. This is now completed. New mastic has been applied to the porch window, and this is now completely dry. We are pleased that you enjoyed most aspects of your holiday, and hope you found it helpful being able to stay until lunchtime on the day of departure, so you did not have to rush. We thank you for leaving it tidy.
