EL BARRIO On the skirts of the Santa Barbara Castle and only 5 minutes walk from the flat you will find a historic section of the city with the Cathedral of San Nicolas. A sight day or night. The town hall worked very hard to bring back to its former glory Alicante's oldest neighbourhood, and now you will find stunning architecture, cobble streets, brightly coloured house and little plazas full of bars, caffees and buzzing with excitement.

SANTA BARBARA CASTLE After long periods of Iberian and Roman rule, Alicante was conquered by the Moors in AD 713. It became part of the great estate of Al-Andalus and new ties were established with the vast Islamic Empire. Alicante's name, Arabic for 'The City of Light', is one of the remnants from this period. The Muslim reign lasted until the 13th century. Over looking Alicante City. It's one of the largest medieval fortresses in Europe and covers the complete summit of the Benacantil Mountain. Santa Barbara Castle has everything you would expect, cannons, a palace, dungeons, a moat, the ruins of a small church and of course that famous lookout tower. There are various events taking place there throughout the year, such as concerts, shows, museum, fireworks etc.

MARK MUSEUM Forget about dusty pots and boring displays! Meshing the oldest of with the newest multimedia, Alicante's archaeological museum- MARQ- was voted Europe's best museum in 2004.

NIGHTLIFE : relax during the day and go out full-steam at night! With tons of atmospheric taverns, energetic cocktail bars, tapas bars, frenetic discos and everything in between, don't be surprised if you stay out until the sun comes up!

HOGUERAS DE SAN JUAN, our fiestas, celebrated yearly on the 21, 22, 23 and 24th of June. Great big, colorful paper mache sculptures, some as tall as 5 story high buildings, are set on the streets of the city for all to admire. Then on the night of the 24th they are burned down. For these four days, people live on the streets where you find live music and entertainmetn in the streets for all.

TABARCA ISLAND

The island of Tabarca is located only 11 nautical miles from the coast of Alicante city and it s a must do trip. You can get a small ferry at the port which will take you there. In the past its shores were a refuge for Berber pirates and today the islands waters have been officially declared a Mediterranean Marine Reserve for their excellent quality and for the biodiversity of their flora and fauna

EL PALMERAL Located in the southern outskirts of the city and just beyond the gentle waves of the Mediterranean Sea is the El Palmeral Park. Take a stroll under hundreds of gently swaying palm trees, through colorful flowerbeds, or take a boat out in one of the boating ponds. Pad along the shady footpaths and you'll stumble across other hidden treasures like graceful waterfalls, balmy vegetation, picnic areas, children's playgrounds, quaint terrace cafés and even a cross-country biking circuit. During the summer, El Palmeral provides constant entertainment as part of the Summer in the Parks program featuring musical performances, children's theater, puppet shows and more!
