The Andalucia region
There is an excellant road network connecting many of the popular holiday destinations from Torremolinos through Fuengirola, Marbella, Estepona right up to Gibraltar which is a 1 hour drive away and well worth a visit. From Al Haurin El Grande travelling inland there are numerous picturesque towns and villages still maintaining Spanish tradition. At the lakes at El Chorro you can swim, picnic, barbecue and even hire pedlows and Kayaks or just dine at the restaurants overlooking the lakes. The area has a very good rail network and easy connections to all of the larger cities. Cycling is now a very popular sport in the whole of The Costa Del Sol
Alhaurin el Grande
Al Haurin El Grande has many Restaurants, Cafes and Bars to suit all tastes. The area is still unspoilt and there are no high rise buildings or hotels. The main street becomes a hive of activity in the evenings.
The area is safe, clean and the evening temperatures are ideal for walks both in the town and the surrounding areas.

"A nice seclueded villa with lovely big pool for the kids"
We spent 10 days in July in the villa with our two children aged 4 and 6. The villa itself was great, nice and spacious with a large pool and surrounding pool area. It seems to be well looked after and was in a good state of repair - all rooms were clean and tidy on our arrival, the pool was clean and the surrounding pool area is planted with a selection of cacti, trees and plants which make it a very pleasant area to relax, working A/C in the bedrooms. The villa is on the outskirts of AlHaurin el Grande in a plot with only one other villa within earshot (the other side of a tall separating hedge, with no view from either villa into the other). There's good access to shops (not on Sunday!), cafés and restaurants. There's lots to do in the surrounding area and it's a 30-40 minute drive to both Malaga and Torremollinos. Note that a car is essential. A particular thank you to Graham who went out of his way to look after us on our stay. Highly recommended.

"Pleasantly surprised by this"
Must admit we were a bit dubious as the advert didn't show the kitchen or bathrooms so we thought there was something to hide but we were wrong. The villa was a delight. Pool area great, so much space, the only thing I'd improve is the quality of the garden furniture. Peaceful and very private and secure. Beware the back door as once it closes you are locked out (works as a front door does) which we found to our dismay one morning after having had breakfast outside, with only bed clothes on and no shoes and 2 children, it was very scary. The only way out was by the help of the villa occupiers next door who helped us scale the very high fence and let us use their internet to contact Allison who came to our rescue! Shame that the only access to the bathrooms is through a bedroom as when our children were wet in the pool and needed the toilet we had to go through their bedroom, could do with a separate toilet. Other than that the villa was perfect for us!

"Holiday in Costa Del Sol"
We stayed at the Villa for a week early June. Location is very peaceful and quiet. The villa has a large patio area so plenty of sun bathing opportunities and shade if required. We ate out one night in Mijas which has lovely views over the coastline and once at a small port called Puerto Cabopino which is on the coast next to a lovely quiet beach. Remaining evenings we had BBQ’s and stayed at the villa which was really relaxing. The villa is about 30 minutes drive from the coast, 15 minutes drive from Mijas and about 90 minutes from Ronda which is also well worth a visit. We found the weather at the villa was hotter than the coast and less cloudy. We were looked after by the owners local contact Graham who made us feel really welcome, gave us some great tips on places to visit and was always on had if we needed help with anything. Only small criticism was the bed legs stick out to its easy to stub your toes and we found the mattress a bit hard but this may suit some people!

"First class - and pleased everyone!"
We have rented holiday properties in Spain for 10 years - some good and some not so good but everyone agreed that "Boracay" was the best ever. The location is perfect - private and quiet but you are not too far from the town of Alhaurin (it is a pleasant and easy walk from the villa). The villa is well equipped, very well maintained and has some fantastic views - mountains to the South and the valley to the North, very restful with and early evening beer - even more restful with later in the evening with more beer! We were looked after (spoiled) by Graham - he lives nearby and nothing was too much trouble for him - not that we had anything to be troubled about. Alhaurin el Grande may not be first on list for a Spanish holiday destination but within a radius of 20 kms you have beaches, mountains, interesting towns/villages and shops. Further afield you have nature reserves and lakes at El Chorro (a must see). Malaga is easily and best reached by train from Cartama. There are many way marked walking routes (easy to very difficult) but we managed four and all were well worth the effort. Take a bike and the effort is even more rewarding but just be careful of the condition of some of the roads. We enjoyed it so much we've booked again for next year!
