The Costa del Sol/Malaga region
Casa Montanes is perfectly paced to discover the beauty and heritage of Andalucia. The picturesque Lake District is only an hour away, and there is easy access, either by road or rail, to Ronda, Granada and the Alhambra, Seville and Cordoba. These are all historic places of interest and show the area's rich Moorish influences.
Locally, there are lots of interesting places to visit, with Malaga and it's historic area a real must, especially the Picasso Museum. There are many other lovely white hill top towns to visit and of course there is the glamour of Marbella and Puerto Buenous, just an hour away. As you can see the area is truly diverse.
The months of July and August are very hot, so usually the best idea is just to relax with a cold drink and watch the world go by! Heaven.
Alhaurin de la Torre Area / Lauro Golf area
Lauro golf is sitauted between Alhaurin de la Torre and Alhaurin el Grande. Both are still very Spanish and enjoy Festivals and Fierra throughout the year. You will often see and hear the local kids practising for their marching bands with bugles and drums, outside the Town Hall. Elderly men still gather in the evening to chat and play dominoes in the old square, and people promenade and catch up on the days news.
The golf course boasts 27 holes and was designed by Falco Nardi. It is a parkland course with nine lakes , many olive trees and from some holes views to Malaga Bay.
For those booking a golf holiday, there are three other top class courses within a fifteen minute drive. There is Alhaurin Golf Club with it's international standard 18 hole course designed by Seve Ballesteros and its 18 hole juniour course. The main course is not for the faint hearted as it is very steep, but the views are outstanding, across the mountains and down to the Mediterranean sea.
There is Gaudalhorce Golf Club situated to the east of Malaga airport, with it's beautifully restored 18th century club house. It is a parkland course with some very tricky holes. It is very family oriented.
Close to the coast is the links course of Real Club de Campo Malaga, which also has a Parador. It is one of the oldest clubs on the Costa del Sol and hosts several PGA tournaments.
So plenty for golfers to choose from!
In the winter a trip to the ski slopes of the Sierra Nevada is very "Doable" and it is quite a surprise, just how much snow can fall there.
How to get there
Casa Montanes is situated at Lauro Golf and is easily accessible from Malaga airport, being only a 40 minute drive from the airport. Malaga is well served by budget airlines from most UK airports and booking in advance can save on the cost of flights. Alternatively Seville, Granada and Gibraltar airports are all within a two hour drive. Try www.skyscanner.net for the best deals.
If arriving on an international flight to Madrid, there is a fast train link to Malaga. An amazingly short three and a half hours.
Car hire is advised, not only to reach the house, but to explore the surrounding beautiful Guardalhorce Valley, an area of outstanding natural beauty. All the major car hire companies are represented at the luggage collection hall at the airport and at the arrival hall of the train station.
