The Sardinia region

Sardinia is the second largest island in the Mediterranean but also a mini-continent for the numerous varieties of human and natural environments which characterize it.
The coasts are scraggy and rocky, surrounded by shallow sea and scattered with astonishing beaches of very fine sand and innumerable coves. The seaside views are among the most marvellous in the world. Most beautiful little isles are interspersed around the coastline. ".
Several civilizations (Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Romans, Arabs, Byzantines and Spanish) all have come at different stages in the island leaving traces and influences which have been assimilated and reinterpreted and integrated within Sardinia's own culture.
In the same way as the area of Gennargentu (Sardinia's physical and an breathtaking National Park), has always been unapproachable to foreigners. All these give a unparalleled and genuine flavour to visiting Sardinia.
The visitor feels confident, "assured" by this feeling of inalterability: as if here, even in the most modern towns of the island, everything continues to be most authentic, most genuine.
The Alghero area
Alghero, a town in the province of Sassari, is considered an island Catalan language, since about 40% of the population speaks the variation in Alghero. This language is recognized by Italy as a minority language, it's starting to be taught and used in the area.
The town is situated on the North-West of Sardinia, in the harbour. Its location is perfect, since it is between the Natural Park of Porto Conte and Marine Reserve of Capo Caccia-Isola Piana.
The climate of Alghero is strongly influenced by sea, especially in winter temperatures takes off. Visiting Alghero is like visiting a huge outdoor museum, the city is divided into two, the old town and the territory. The city covers the walls, with which Alghero has identified over the years, and still today, despite being partly destroyed, continue to be important for the people of Alghero.
Important are also its Catalan Gothic churches, and magnificent palaces. A very important but are also the Village nuragico Palmavera, that of S. Imbeni and the Villa Romana Sant'Imbenia. However, an important place is given to some historical remains of great importance, as the two historic caves, that Green and Dragunara. Alghero like the rest of Sardinia has a great culinary tradition, however, Alghero combines Sardinian cooking as Catalan, combining his excellent vegetables, fish, fresh view of its position, or the donkey salami, animal utilisation there, and of course its wonderful wines, all from the vast stretches of vineyards.
Beautiful Girls are also its manifestations, which largely increase the marine products, such as the Festival of Bogamarì which is a review on gastronomic sea urchin, the fishing diving competitions, but also his carnival, religious processions, especially in Easter periods, but beautiful is the Feast of Sant'Elmo, which consists of a procession of boats carrying the statue of the saint by sea.
