The Sardinia region
Alghero is steeped in history ,dating back to the early Stone Age. The Catalan influence is found throughout Alghero, both in the local dialect and in the cuisine. Alghero has two of the largest vineyards in Sardinia, producing two of the best known wines - Sella & Mosca and Santa Maria de la Palma. The Sella & Mosca vineyard has daily tours of its wine cellars, followed by a tasting. This is definitely a tour to take for all those wine buffs........and it’s free. Alghero’s old town is full of charm, with some lovely old churches, the beautifully coloured dome of San Michele, which can be seen from most places in the old town. The narrow, cobbled streets and piazzas are full of bars and cafés, where you can relax after exploring the local shops. If you don't fancy seeing the sights on foot, the "Catalan Train", which leaves from the port, will allow you to learn more about Alghero, as it takes you on a tour of the winding streets. The bastion walls allow a pleasant stroll, with views over the port to Capo Caccia. There are plenty of bars and restaurants along the walls, where you can enjoy a relaxing drink or meal, whilst watching the world go by. You can also take a boat trip from the harbour to Neptune’s Caves. In the evenings, you will be spoilt for choice for restaurants and bars. There are also clubs for dancing or, if an evening stroll is more your thing, join the “passegiata” with the locals, followed by an ice cream from one of the many excellent ice cream shops. Sardinia’s coastline provides a wealth of interest for water enthusiasts – wind-surfing, diving, snorkelling or swimming in the warm, turquoise waters is always a pleasure. Alghero’s own beach is long and sandy, with warm, shallow water. In certain areas, you can choose to hire a parasol or, if you prefer to be away from the crowds, pick a secluded site. There are plenty of other beaches nearby, reachable by bicycle, scooter or car. Pedaloes, canoes or kayaks can be hired in some places, whilst others have children's toys, slides, swings and houses to play in, included in the beach price. La Pineta beach walking distance from the old town and provides an area sheltered by pine trees, with sand dunes for more privacy. Just outside of Alghero, you can find many "Agriturismo" restaurants, allowing you to sample traditional foods, fresh from the land.

Guestbook for Villa E
“We found a light and airy, tastefully decorated, simply furnished and clean interior. The open plan kitchen and living area opens onto the patio and pool area, which must be lovely in the summer but we were there in November and the pool was covered up. As a keen swimmer I was impressed that the pool is bigger than the average domestic pool and would be big enough to actually swim in rather than just splashing about in. Maybe next time. Being November, we also missed out on the barbecue and the sun loungers and took more interest in the heating which came by way of the air conditioning units in each of the main rooms, which were very efficient. A lovely place, ideal for two but obviously good for up to six, well equipped and clean. Convenient but peaceful location. We would happily go back again.”
Gareth Richards, Brighton
"Thanks very much for the use of your villa, we all had a great time and it's a lovely place. The girls (aged 7) especially loved the pool and achieved some "life landmarks" there. They learnt how to snorkel and dive (not jump) into the pool. You've done really well with the furnishings and the house well equipped. Great to find plastics picnic plates, glasses etc. Especially liked the tuneful washing machine!! It's a very lovely house and we had a fantastic holiday there and came back very relaxed."
