The Sardinia region

Alghero is steeped in history dating back to the early Stone Age. Alghero descends from the Catalan period and still hold its traditions in the language that is spoken by the locals & the food. The local dish is Paella in Alghero.
Alghero has two of the largest vineyards in Italy producing two of the most well known wines in Italy. Sella Mosca & Santa Maria Palma. Sella Mosca has a daily tour of the wine cellars & a small tasting afterwards, defiantly a tour to take for all those wine buffs........& it is free.
Additionally the car rally "coral tour" starts & finished from Alghero, normally with a great attendance.
There are a lot of "Agro tourism" (restaurants) available in the local area that will allow you taste traditional foods that have been reared or grown on the land.
Also dotted in the smallest of places, are all the beautiful old churches, included is the beautifully coloured dome of San Michele which can be seen from most places of the Old town. Around most corners you will find piazzas with bars & small cafe to enjoy a small break as you wonder around the winding streets shops. The large church that dominates the bastions is well worth a visit. If you don't fancy seeing the sights all on foot there is a "Catalan Train" that can take through as tour to save your feet. This leaves from the port.
The port holds over 2000 boats now, private & well as charters. We have Cruise liners that dock also.
The boat trips from the port are Neptune’s Caves, See dolphins, snorkelling & diving, the coastlines of Alghero have some of the best diving in the world!
The evenings you can dine in a full variation of restaurants, go dancing in some clubs, walk the passagiata with an ice cream, go Go Karting, bowling, set up camp in bar for the night.... the choice is yours.
Alghero beach...Lido is the rated No:2 out of the 345 beaches throughout the whole of Sardinia!!!!. It is long and sandy, warm, shallow & safe. The umbrellaed area have the services of a shower, toilet, life guard, some have small bars attached too.
There are some small rocks as a water break to head for, for the better swimmers, you can hire pedalos, canoes, kayaks, have floats & banana chairs to sit in, some section have children's toys, slide, swings & houses to play in included in the beach price, or simply while away days on the sun loungers under an umbrella trying to decide which ice cream to have later. Pinetta area is a short walk or 5 min drive -this is an area that is covered by pine trees & this has sand dunes for sitting in & playing on.
The Alghero area
All year long festivals that start with...
New Year- a fantastic firework display & music that is free and is located over the port
February Carnevale In Alghero & all local towns
Easter parades & services in the churches.
May Bank holiday (Fairs in the port)
15th August Bank Holiday ( Ferrogosto)
September- Coral car Rally starts & finished from Alghero
29th September- Saints Day in Alghero large port fireworks display & street stalls
Christmas celebration starting from around the 10th with stalls, lights & Christmas trees going up
& various other smaller events throughout the year.

If you are reading this the you have chosen one of the finest apartments in Alghero. Very friendly people here inn Alghero. the Old Town is bustling every night with both locals & tourist alike.
For a quiet snack or drink at a very reasonable price stay close to the apartment and try one of the local Italian bars. Top marks all round

As always we have had an amazing holiday in Sardinia. The apartment has been fantastic and we love coming to Apartment tarragona.
We visited our favourite restaurant Le tre torres" on the edge of the Old Town and can highly recommend the aubergine roll with veal and porcine mushrooms to start and sea bass fillets floowoed by Crema Catalana
Will definitely come back again especially to Tarragona

Wonderful time as usual. This apartment is in such a good location. we recommend"Montis" bar for a cocktail on the way back from the beach, the Sky bar for the best view in Alghero.
A late discovery was the restaurant "Dona Isabel" literally 5mins walk away in Via Don Mazzini, for something a bit different from the general pizza & pasta.

We had a great week in Alghero! Loved the Old Town , the food and the atmosphere. The apartment was perfect, spacious and good location Fillipa( 2.5y) immediately started to call it "home"
We recommend Andregas restaurant on the sea walls , lovely in the sunset. Great seafood
We went on two days trips. One to Bosa, very nice historic OldTown with narrow streets to explore. The landscape along the road was beautiful. the other trip was to Stintino, where we spent most of the day on lovely Spiaggia Le Pelosa ( Beach)
Because it can be chilly in June we loved the Lazaretto beach , north of Alghero perfect for children, beautiful nature and not too noisy.
Thanks for a great stay and excellent service

We had a great time in Alghero and the kids are already talking about which ice cream they will choose the next time we come. The lovely clean apartment we came back to every night makes all the difference, we had everything here that we could have hoped for.
the open top bus is a must as you will see some amazing sites, you can stop at the end of the island in Capa Caccia where you can walk down 653 steps in to the caves Grotte de Nettuno but i recommend taking the navissarda boat trip to do this instead.
You can walk to some beaches but taking a local bus to Mugoni beach and walking a few hundred yards to the sea is something i would recommend as the place is beautiful.
there are also some great restaurants who serve some fantastic sea food. there were a few that we visited more than once or twice, Le Tre Torres and the paella restaurant on the sea front where you can watch the sun set over the hills.
Overall a fantastic holiday, shame to be going home

We spent a great 10 days in Alghero. the city is really nice and walk round is especially late in the evening are very relaxing and the temperature is then just right. the location of the apartment is very convenient . We can recommend a trip to the caves in Capa Caccia, wheere we were surprised that it was not really a great problem to go up and down the 653 steps and the views are breathtaking as well as when you travel to Bosa and swim next to the cormorants.
Visiting the vineyards Sella & Mosca is also worth while, but before 17.30 or you wont join the group.
the beach north of Alghero is really nice and convenient especially for children , especially if you go and see Costa Smeralda where it is mostly narrow & stony. And go and see the flamingos at large in the marshes next to Oristano. We loved the fruits & vegetables here which are really full of sun, just like the island.
All in all a nice and relaxing part of our holiday

10-17 September 2011
We have had a lovely time in Alghero. the things we must recommend are breakfast at Ciro ( via sassari) for cake and paste, dinner at Maristella ( Via Kennedy) where the locals eat and the food is truly amazing; a day on a sail boat with snorkeling and swimming with Wind Sardinia sail where the captain was friendly, chatty chap and finally a ride to Stintino and lazing on La Pelosa beach is really not to be missed 'cos the water there was the clearest and a really gradually gradient which meant you could stand up a long way out.
this was all topped off by staying in a lovely apartment . When we arrived we had a chance conversation about why people go back to the same place for holidays year after year rather than trying something eles. Having a spent a week here i think we now understand why!

White soft sand and lovely coffee and ice cream where ingredients in our after Semester ie: after vacation trip to Sardinia. the weather was perfect for a Nordic family 25-30° and sunny . Just like the best days of July in Sweden. We'll be back for sure when the kids are older to explore more of the island
