The Sardinia region
Alghero is steeped in history dating back to the early Stone Age. Alghero descends from the Catalan period and still hold its traditions in the language that is spoken by the locals & the food. The local dish is Paella in Alghero.
Alghero has two of the largest vineyards in Italy producing two of the most well known wines in Italy. Sella Mosca & Santa Maria Palma. Sella Mosca has a daily tour of the wine cellars & a small tasting afterwards, defiantly a tour to take for all those wine buffs........& it is free.
Additionally the car rally "coral tour" starts & finished from Alghero, normally with a great attendance.
You can hire bikes & scooters, golf carts from the port.
There are a lot of "Agro tourism" (restaurants) available in the local area that will allow you taste traditional foods that have been reared or grown on the land.
Also dotted in the smallest of places, are all the beautiful old churches, included is the beautifully coloured dome of San Michele which can be seen from most places of the Old town. Around most corners you will find piazzas with bars & small cafe to enjoy a small break as you wonder around the winding streets shops.
The large church that dominates the bastions is well worth a visit. If you don't fancy seeing the sights all on foot there is a "Catalan Train" that can take through as tour to save your feet. This leaves from the port.
The port holds over 2000 boats now, private & well as charters. We have Cruise liners that dock also. The boat trips from the port are Neptune’s Caves, See dolphins, snorkelling & diving, the coastlines of Alghero have some of the best diving in the world!
The evenings you can dine in a full variation of restaurants, go dancing in some clubs, walk the passagiata with an ice cream, go Karting, bowling, set up camp in bar for the night.... the choice is yours.
Alghero beach...Lido is the rated No: 2 out of the 345 beaches throughout the whole of Sardinia! It is long and sandy, warm, shallow & safe. The umbrellaed area have the services of a shower, toilet, life guard, some have small bars attached too.
There are some small rocks as a water break to head for, for the better swimmers, you can hire pedalos, canoes, kayaks, have floats & banana chairs to sit in, some section have children's toys, slide, swings & houses to play in included in the beach price, or simply while away days on the sun loungers under an umbrella trying to decide which ice cream to have later. Pineta area is a short walk or 5 min drive -this is an area that is covered by pine trees & this has sand dunes for sitting in & playing on.
Located in the northwest of Sardinia, Alghero, in recent years, has become a major holiday destination, yet it still retains its charming small town feel, authentic Sardinian hospitality, and a distinctive Catalan character; which derives from the influence of Pedro IV of Aragon who seized control of the city in the mid-fourteen century during an intense period of colonization from Spain. Yet, today Alghero is renowned for being one of the most Italian holiday towns in Sardinia.
The pedestranised old town centre (10 walking minutes from Il Nido), on the sea front consists of a labyrinthic network of cobbled narrow lanes, brimful of artisan shops, fashionable boutiques, bustling open air cafes and atmospheric restaurants, perfect for ‘al fresco’ wining & dining, and ideal for seafood lovers.
Due to its balanced Mediterranean climate (Feb 14c, May 22c, Aug 27c, Nov 17c), Alghero is an ideal year round holiday destination. Visitors to this charming town can enjoy sunbathing and swimming alongside Lungomare Valencia or over the sandy beach of the Lido. The other enjoyable hobby is to admire the truly idyllic sunsets which enhance the surrounding scenic coastline. In addition Alghero is an ideal base for day trips in the immediate vicinity to place such as; the Neptune’s Grotto, Stintino, Bosa, Argentiera, the Anghelu Ruju necropolis and Nuraghe di Palmavera (More local information provided on our guest resort book available in the apartment)

"Central but noisy"
Positives:- We loved Alghero and the fact this apartment was right in the middle of the it, high above the old town. - We also really enjoyed the views over the city and sea from the rooftop terrace.-… More
We are sorry for the negative considerations that Marissa expressed. The building is old because we are in precious and ancient historical center and the building dates back to 1600, but tourists have enjoyed the historicity of our building; in any case, the apartment has been renovated 2 years ago
All tourist centers share this situation on Saturday night, if you want to have maximun silence, you should book a countryside, with the incovenience of having shops, restaurants and beaches far away, reachable only by renting a car.
Regarding the problem of holiday lettings, we have done everything to try to protect our customers, they have been properly notified a few days before that the problem (with us not wanted) had been resolved.

"Magnificent stay in historic surroundings!"
We had two wonderful weeks in Alghero. We go to Alghero every year and this is the best apartment we have had so far. The owners are very nice and accommodating. The apartment is located on the pedestrian street in the old town. The central location means that you have direct access to the most; restaurants sightseeing, marina and beaches. The apartment itself is clean, equipped with what is needed and also quite cool even on hot days.
The terrace belonging to the apartment is absolutely lovely. It is located a couple of small stairs up from the apartment. The view leaves nothing to be desired and the furniture is quite enough, though somewhat dated. If you have trouble with stairs shell one might consider if you want to stay here. For me and my partner, it was absolutely no problem. It just gave some free exercise!
I can definitely recommend this apartment.
Thank´s to the Piras´s family!
We were sincerely glad to know you! You have been very, very welcome hosts!!

"Apartment right in the heart of the Old Town"
I have stayed at the apartment three times now as have been working on a project in Alghero Old Town, or Centro Storico. The town is so atmospheric, beautiful and also very friendly, and this charming apartment is absolutely right in the heart of it, with a great range of restaurants and shops literally on the doorstep. It is in a very old building and walking up the stairs to the apartment you can really feel the history around you. The apartment itself has access to an amazing roof terrace which has 360 degree views of Alghero, the marina, the sea and far beyond. It is the perfect place to relax and watch the sun go down. Whilst the apartment is right in the heart of town, it is actually very quiet, so there is no sound of music from bars.
What makes everything even better are the owners of the apartment, Silvia and Antonio, who are really lovely, very warm and friendly and have made me feel very welcome each time I have been there and happy to help with any questions I've had.
All in all, it has been a great place to stay, right in the heart of a beautiful old town and with very friendly people.

"Beautiful apartment in wonderful location would highly recommend"
The property was beautiful and in great condition, the roof terrace is fantastic and we could have spent the whole week basking in the sun on it. The service from the owners was excellent and they were more than happy to help at all times. The location is amazing, right in the heart of the old town with amazing sea views from the terrace.

"The worst experience ever"
My partner and I had a very bad experience renting this appartment. After the initial shock of a really run down stairwell with broken/ dangerous tiles and the roof terrace that was located a further two stories up from the appartment we payed a €200 deposit and balance of rent for a week. The way the appartment is advertised on the internet is very misleading and incorrect. The appartment is not located on the top floor as advertised which gives the impression that the roof terrace is at the same level or at least self contained within the confines of the appartment. When accessing the roof terrace it was very dangerous. The last step is about a foot steep. It is certainy in breach of all health and safety standards. My partner hit her head on the roof exiting out to the terrace. The barking from the german shepard dog belonging to the owners was very disturbing whenever we accessed the roof terrace. We were ensured that the terrace was for our use only and the on the first day while we were using the terrace we heard one of the owners coming up the stairs. After one night we decided that we were not happy with the set up and asked for a refund. The owners refused to give us any refund. We were happy to compromise and take only half of the weeks rent. The man of the household was very agressive and verbally abusive to us. He proceeded to roar and shout at us when we didn't want to leave without some form of refund. The woman and her son were very agressive too and eventually we left without any refund apart from the deposit we had paid in the event of damage. We felt we had no come back at all and had to pay for another appartment for the week. This was the worst experience we had ever had in appartment rental. I am gald that you have asked for a review as I feel that you should not be advertising such a dangerous building which is clearly giving misleading information. The experience really had a very negative effect on both of us. It runied our holiday. The appartment is in the daughter's name Antonella who livesin the US. We communicated with her via e mail but she was unwilling to compromise with us. I appeal to you to post this on your web pages and make this known to others. I would appreciate it if you can send me a link to confirm this.

"Perfect located in the old town"
We stayed a week in this pleasant apartment with our 3 year old daughter. The apartment is perfectly situated in the heart of the historical center of Alghero, with a 10-15 minutes walk to the city beach and just a few minutes walk to the Alghero gardens, a lovely little park with a play ground for kids. We were warmly welcomed by the lovely family living in upstairs, and enjoyed their hospitality during our stay. The roof terrace has a great view of the city and we enjoyed many evenings with a glass of wine at the terrace. Alghero is a beautiful place, with friendly people, fantastic food and excellent local wines, and we highly recommend it to anyone traveling to Sardinia.
