The Sardinia region
Alghero is a beautiful little historic town, situated on the North West coast of Sardinia, surrounded by magnificent white sandy beach (Le Bomabarde), beautiful coves (La Speranza) and hearth breaking cliffs. You will relax sunbathing on a beach, swimming in the crystalline water of Mediterranean Sea or walking on the stunning cliffs of Capo Caccia enjoying at the same time the fantastic panoramic view. The walled Catalan historic town gives a romantic surrounding to your night out, where you can try a wide variety of fresh regional Sardinian food.
Alghero offers many type of holydays at once: adventurous water sport, scuba diving and climbing or just the relaxing “Dolce Vita” sitting on a local bar being hugged by the brackish breeze and being kissed by the warm sunshine.
Alghero area
Once in Alghero there is a wide variety of things to do. Just outside the town you could visit the only natural lake of Sardinia, the “Bartz Lake”, the local preservation wildlife centre “ Arca di Noè”, the Bronze Age Nuragic village “Palmavera” and the prehistoric tombs of “Angelu Ruju”. Opposite this archaeologicala site is possible to visit the wine farm “Sella&Mosca”, in a beautiful spot of the Sardinian countryside. There is a daily-guided tour to the cellar and the old villa converted into a museum. It is also possible to buy the locally produced wine at a farm price. At few miles away from Alghero is worth to visit the small villages of Villanova Monteleone and Bosa. The first is situated up to the ill surrounding Alghero’s bay, and is known for the local production of cheeses and traditional carpets; the second is well known for the production of hand made laces and ends called “filet”, and the red wine “Malvasia”. Locally depending on the time of the year you may find traditional feasts held on the principal square of the villages or traditional costumes dance festivals. Back to Alghero town you can plan a boat trip to admire the beauty of the coast and visit the enchanting Nettuno’s grotto or visit one of the many churches like San Francesco, San Michele or the Cathedral Santa Maria and its bell tower in the old town.
