The Sardinia region
Hot in summertime, warm n Spring and Autumn, mild in Winter. Sardinia is the second largest Island at the centre of the Mediterranean sea.
History
During and after Nuraghi Civilisation, (3000 B.C.) people from Middle East and North Africa , Romans, Spanish, Pisans and Genoises invaded thoughout the centuries this land. Each people left behind a little bit of history, adding to the unique patchwork of Sardinian culture – Roman ruins, Pisan churches, baroque and gothic architecture. Above all the monuments the Nuraghi Castles, conic rock buildings made with huge stones years ago, dominate the island scenary. When visiting them you feel lost in a misterious past.
Landscape
Clear tides run up coastlines of golden sands, while the mountainous heart of the island is covered with green forests and wild flowers. This part of the islands deserves a visit in springtime or early summer (March/June) for the beautiful colours. Sardinia’s undeniable natural beauty is as yet untouched and untainted by the ravages of tourism and industry, making it an idyllic island retreat.
Beaches
With waters so clear you can see the seabed and unspoilt stretches of golden and white sand, . At present, the beaches remain relatively uncrowded throughout the year, except for peak season. There are opportunities to try your hand at several water sports, including surfing, windsurfing, water-skiing and sailing. Diving can be particularly interesting with the wrecks off the coast providing a unique experience.
Shopping
For a unique Sardinian souvenir, try the street markets. Almost every day of the week, a different town has a different market, where you can buy from the stalls all kinds of local wares, artcrafts, sheep cheese, succulent pork sausages, sweet seasonal fruits and vegetables
Local Specialities
Sardinian cuisine is about fresh ingredients, simply prepared and complimented by a good wine. Around the resort areas, restaurants serve your standard pasta, pizza and salad menus, though for a truer taste of Sardinia, sample some of the seafood. Lobster and bottarga, caviar made from mullet eggs, are just a few of the things Sardinia does well. Roast pig is an example of how simple preparation allows for maximum taste. You can’t leave the island without trying some sheep and goat milk cheeses that Sardinia is famed for. For something a bit sweeter, try one of their many pastries. When it comes to wine, there’s no shortage of choice, from hefty reds through to fruity whites and sweet “moscato” .
Festivals and sagras are not to be missed:
*At Easter the ”Settimana Santa “ ,Holy Week ,celebrations that are as the most suggestive in Sardinia..
*May sees the celebrations of the 3 Saints Proto Gavino and Genuario, patrons of Porto Torres , with a street procession and 3 days of street market *Christmas and New Year celebrations are also full of entertainments and a fireworks displays in Alghero welcomes the New Year.
*Throughout the year there are many inland festivals that are within easy reach by car: : I Candelieri and la Cavalcata Sarda in Sassari, La Sagra Del Redentore in Nuoro , la Festa di Sant’Efisio in Cagliari. On this occasions peasants dressed with traditional costumes parade in a jubilation of traditional dances and folk songs.

Guestbook
Hallo, Luigi, We are now back from Germany and can write You.
We were very content with Your home. It is laying central, so we were in the city in only a few moments. We found a big shopping possibilitie (Lidl) also only a few minutes away, so we must not take our car. In Your home was place enough and it was very clean. And the owner (Luigi) was really friendly and told us the most important things of his island Sardinia. We hope, Your guests feel so well like we did in Your home.
Yours Ingrid and Axel from Sweden

What a Wonderful Holiday !!!
Porto Torres is a perfect authentic Italian Sardinian town which has been totally unspoilt by tourism and is therefore ideal for both families and groups.
The house is very spacious with a large courtyard at the front and a smaller one at the back. All amenities, restaurants and bar, beaches are within walking distance.
There is a wonderful promenade which leads you to all the near beaches and we suggest you to follow the promenade all the way round just before the sun is setting as the redness of the set covers the sea.
On the whole we had a very comfortable time
